A 1969 Camaro Z/28... This was in September of '79 just before the prices started to skyrocket through the roof...

  3. lets see
    1955 chevy bread truck - $200 + bout $400 in parts $600
    1950 dodge coronet - Free + $1200 in parts $1200
    1973 honda xl175 - $100 + $35 in parts $135
    1981 honda atc250r - traded a $500 car + $250 in parts = $750
I think I have only payed over 1500 for my O/T daily driver..

  4. OK nothing lately but here's my list (with dates)

1959: 1930 Model A 2 dr sedan with hydraulic brakes, allegedly built up 4 banger with a header and single exhaust, 2 strombergs, and a distributor instead of a magneto. $150

    1960: 1950 Olds 2 dr coupe, stock $100

1962: 1956 Olds 2 dr sedan with factory 3 on the tree, single 4 barrel. $550

    1976: 1953 Plymouth Suburban, stock $475.

Still have the Suburban. Wish I still had the other three.

  5. Parts and pieces for six Model As (2 31 sedans, a 29 sedan shortened to make a pick-up 28 AR sport coupe 2 28 2dr sedans). Parts and pieces for 4 Model Ts (all tourings). A 31 Studebaker four door. A woodless 29 chev truck, with oddball bits, from one location. Most quite rough, all for $1500 dollars. Made my money back and still have 75% of it. That occured about 7 years ago. It was on the beaten track and many people knew and asked about them. The answer was no, until the day I stopped in, for some reason or another.

Paid over 1500 three times in my life, two daily drivers and one is my 35 3 window.

(2008) My 1964 ford f100. $650 with a running and driving 292 y block/ 4spd with a granny gear but with hardly any brakes and ended up going out when we drove it home. Found it on craigslist. I bought it when I turned 15 with my own money. Worth every penny. :)

This one was advertised in our local Sunday paper in February 1967 for $500. It was on the other side of town (about 10 miles away). My dad and I went to look at it in a snowstorm. The seller was the second owner and he was moving to Florida and was selling everything. At the time it was Cloudmist Gray and had clear plastic covers on the seats.....maybe had about 60K miles on it. The battery was dead so we couldn't take it for a spin. Later that afternoon the seller brought it to our house (in a snowstorm) and took us for a ride. We were the only call he got on the car and the next day he called and wanted to talk to me. I was only sixteen at the time and I told him when we looked at it that I had saved money from my paper route. He told me that if I wanted the car he'd sell it to me for $300!

I guess I probably ruined it by not keeping her original. But next month the old girl and I will be together for 44 years.

I got my original paint '62 406-6V Galaxie 500XL for $300- and it came with two sets of American mags, a 427 steel crank, and an extra 4-speed
When I was helping a friend finish up his '24 Dodge, the guy across the street who knew I had the 406 car came over and asked if I'd be interested in his '62- so we walk over to his garage, and it's a cherry '62 Sunliner ragtop. Hands me the keys, fires right up (new battery) and the 352 runs saweeet. OK, how much? "I'm getting divorced and have to split it with the wife- you can have it for $25 if you get it out of here before she gets home" Just happened to have $25 in my pocket, was down the street with the pink in 3 minutes- drove it straight to DMV and transferred it
Picked up a '66 Country Squire wagon right up the street, original 428 they bought new, parked in the barn since '89 (and non-oped), for $100- had it running in 20 minutes, drove it on the trailer, and everything worked- all the lights, back window for the two-way tailgate, power seat, even the heater fan. So my buddy across the street that owns the local speed shop calls, got a guy looking for a 428- I call the guy and he has a '66 7Litre Galaxie, nice 4-speed car except the original 428 is history. Just so happens the date code on the wagon's 428 matches his 7Litre perfectly, and it runs great- $2000 and it's his. Just tonight I finished putting a $250 390 in the wagon, as I've sold the car for- $2000
    I'm headed out for a cocktail :D

  9. I've owned well over 200 cars and trucks and the vast majority were under 1500. I wish to hell I still had every $50 driver I've had.
The 55 Cad powered 54 GMC in my avatar was a running driver that I paid a whopping $340. and have less than $1300 in it now. and the only reason I paid that much was for the El Dorado tripower manifold that was on it

bought my rail out of a salvage yard for $200 & restored it to running condition for $2500 back in 1990. the only reason I was able to do it was all the vinatge parts I needed were basically free or pennies on the dollar because everyone that had them thought they were old out dated junk (I got my complete hilborn injection-pump & timing cover for $150)? It also helped that I did my own paint, engine work & all the labor.

Bought my '40 Ford coupe in 1958 for $75.00. 52 Ford engine, 39 tranny. In 1963 I bought a Stude V8 powered '40 fordor with a LaSalle tranny for $100.00 with the wiring burnt out of it---a buddy rewired it for me all in red. I bought a complete '40 Ford fordoor body (no chassis parts) for $10.00. Got the front clip, bumpers, front doors (for my coupe) and the rear fenders before I ran out of time (I only had the weekend before the chassis was turned into a haysweep.) This body was PERFECT. Those were the good old days---

Lucked out and saw an online post for this 1962 Buick Special wagon. When I called the lady she said I could come right out. 33 miles later I saw it, couldn't open the hood, couldn't roll it but it looked all there. She told me the story of her husband (43 yrs old) just died from illness as he was fixing it up. He was a musician and surfer and loved this car. When he died they buried him with a model car of the same vintage in the casket. I told her eventually it would be a surf wagon and her eyes lit up! Then she told me the price...$750. I didn't haggle as I knew that this baby would be gone if I left without giving her a deposit. I wrote a check for the whole thing, told her to call me when it cleared. She called me three days later and said the car was mine. She also said she got close to fifty calls, with each caller offering more than the last.

I flatbedded it home, put on a new fuel pump, turned the key and VROOM!
the first year of the V6. I love it.

  17. Nearly all of them with the exception of a couple of late model cars in the later 90s.

As far as buying from friends does that mean people that I know or friends their is a lot of difference. I normally pay with a couple of hundred bucks of the asking price. I still do n't believe that a project is worth very much more than 1200 bucks and I like to stay uunder a grand for a builder.
I think that Mrs. 'Beaner gave 1200 delivered from Western Kansas for my Willys. But it is a pretty complete vehicle some assembly required, and it runs like a top.
