so.....what are the major events in St Louis that people ALWAYS go to?

I had heard that the Mopar event is no longer happening since the Gateway was shut down.........

someone else told me easter there is a good get together at the Forest Park

I am wondering cause a buddy of mine down there is REALLY trying to get me down there to help out with an event - trying to get it rolling for the weekend after Greaserama

so that would be Sept 10

I already have something in Iowa that weekend - but if there was no conflict - perhaps throwing some love to St Louis would be a good thing

    anyway

I look forward to all you S. Illinois / Eastern MO people filling me in on what are the MUST attend events around that time

Frog Follies is the last weekend in Aug the 26/27th in 2011

then the following weekend in KC is the Greaserama

the Quincy show is Sept 16-17

    FILL ME IN!!!

I've been to Hunnert car a few times, I'm not much of a car show type though.

the easter show in forest park is a big deal, along with the fenton cruise (1st friday of each month in season) at hwy 30 and rahning road.

where is this show gonna be? is it the same weekend as the 'new' goodguys indy show?

    Indy is Sept 16-18th

    this would be the 10th.....

again - we will have to see what is up.

Buddy of mine that is into promoting music in the St Louis area is trying to incorporate some good music with hot rod/cycle stuff

Belleville is where the location was gonna be.

Indoor location for possible vendor and some nice show rods,
covered outdoor area for the bands or maybe swap meet under there?
who knows - maybe even get access to the track there?

I know that the Chuckaburger was a great show there for a bit.....but wondering if there would be people that would actually show up if something like this were to actually happen.

    Greaserama is the weekend before.
HAMB drags couple of weeks before.

hey - KB Cookout - the swap is still gonna try to be that last weekend of April/May 1
but the location is still undecided - dont worry though - it will still be in the St Louis area.......

just keep an eye on their site!

Well, the problem with St. Louis isnt the shows, its the people. A lot of people just dont drive their cars, a lot of people think they're too cool for shows. Some years, the shows are packed, some there are 10 cars. It seems this upcoming year there are a lot of cars that are going to be finished, so it should be good. There are a few local pre 64 shows, but nothing major. There is one called gears grease and grooves. Cool show, good venue, bands, but not a lot of people showing up and the same 20 cars. The Rat Rod Shop has a cool shindig, but its a glorified party. In my opinion, if someone were to set up a good show, St. Louis would thrive. There are a lot of active smaller cities around, but nothing int St. Louis itself. I welcome you with open arms to make a bad ass show here, shit Ill help however I can. The majority of car show and concert goers here are scene people, so you'll have to cater to them. Ive played music for years and its the same story with that in St. Louis. Come save us!

  12. I'm sorry captain cool, where were you for GGG last year? There was like 60+ cars and we were still turning people away at the gate, and we shut manchester down, just like you said we wouldn't. Our FREE show is inthe city not in some dusty field where your paying to sit in the sun. This will be the third year and will be 100+ cars this year and a ton of bikes

there is more spectator parking on the opposite side of the track.....
dont think it is used all that much.

We will see what the people in charge there finally say about the idea......
but I think St Louis has a good base.....

    We will keep everyone updated

This the place, now is the time,to put your 2 cents in people. These things take a huge amount of time and effert to plan and organize. The lead time needed to book a fairgrounds alone takes months,if more people dont weigh in on the side of hell yeah I would attend an awesome event like that in southern Ill. near the Mo. border in Sept.It just wont happen.I know that Johns shindigs are first class and a must attend as any one who was at Farley in May 2010 can tell you.I gotta believe there are a lot of HAMBers around south western Il. and western Ky. and western Tn. that could make a 3-4 hour cruise to attend , pipe in now so he knows your there. He knows I will help all I can, let he know what you think now.

still waiting to hear back from the people that run the place...........
if they wait too long - it wont happen -

events like this cost a LOT of $$$

this means you have to have a long lead time and if we dont have that - then the plans will be scrapped

belle-claire sounds good to me. easy access, shouldn't be too hard to fill the place up.

Easter Sunday. Horseless Carriage Concours dElegance is on the upper Muny Parking Lot in forest Park. Unless really bad weather this show will be 500 + cars.
The Hot Rod clubs also have a show in the lower level in front of the Muny ticket office. So you can see the best of both worlds at one time

The Model T Ford Club's swap meet, about 30 some years now and still going great. About 1000 swap spaces and almost always sold out. Normally on the last Sunday in April will probably be one week later due to Easter being the last Sunday. The T Swap Meet will be near the large Gateway Speedway. I will post the exact location as soon as I know for sure.

I will be at all 3. SEE YOU THERE.

NOTE: All of the above are good shows. BUT, one that has not been mentioned is the Cobblestone Nationals Show that's held at Fastlane Classic Cars on Memorial Day Weekend (always with a "rain date"). It's in St. Charles, MO. just off Hwy. 370, at Hwy. 94.

Usually a good crowd, cool cars, and, good browsing (indoors) at Classic's Inventory.

SO, if I don't see you in St. Louis, my friend, I'll see you in SALINA !

I was asked about doing this a few years ago ,Would love to see it happen , but will be tough to pull off. I was looking at st.charles convention center, big lot in back, bands could be inside meeting rooms, hotels near by and casino plus downtown st.charles maintstreet in walking distence .bass pro shops , tons of food places. Make it worth while for people to drive up to 4hrs hours here .
I was involved in one of the biggest and best shows in the area, the O'Fallon Mayfest. 300-500+ cars depending on weather, plus swap meet as well as other shows. Tried working with Chuck a booger on bike cruises, the guy is an ass . We packed his lot every week and they wanted to charge us for water .
Scene people, just go with whatever seems to be trendy and hip. not fully into anything just like to try to fit in with others. St.Louis people suck and will not be the making of this show, but it is a good central location to atract people too
Uhm, gears grease and grooves is a poor completion on a good idea,
The cars are lt in based on who you know, all attention is to the bikes, the bands get no advertisement .
Which showss one of the other big issues in STL ,is the "friends" game always played like the mentioned coblestone nations has trophys decided before anyone shows up .

One more location: They used to hold yearly shows at HARRAH'S CASINO, just off Hwy.70 & the Earth City Expressway.

Huge lot...plenty of parking space, easy Hwy. access. Usually were held in July. (THE INVICTA was the Feature Car there at the 2001 Show, see pic below, and M.K. John drove up from Montgomery City and had his '63 Rivi there that year too.)

It seems that Sep-Oct is going to be heavily saturated with car events.

    Pileup
    James Dean
    ASRA in Rantoul
    Newport Hillclimb
    Greaserama
    RT 66 in Springfield
    Bombers bash in Peoria

and I am sure I am forgetting something....

Captain Chaos nailed this whole fucking thread shut, haha, good job. I went to GGG 2 years ago, it wouldve been awesome, but the weather sucked, rain, then 110 degrees. When I was there, there was only about 10 cars and other than TH1LL3R's car, there were none really on display or cars different than I see every month. It looks like last year was a good turn out, but once again, seems some people go because of their friends, and some dont because of people they dont like. I dont know the people who do GGG (other than THR1LL3R) and it doesn't sway my decision to go or not, but there are a LOT of people in this city who only deal with their friends, and it makes it tough to get something big going without bullshit. I didnt go to GGG last year because I was at work. I am speaking on behalf of a younger group. I dont hang out with any older guys just because I dont know them, so what they do, I dont know. There are a TON of good shows around, Cobblestone Nationals being one, but as far as a traditional show with beer, music, and a cool atmosphere, GGG is the best we've got running right now. Maybe you should get with those guys and bump heads and figure out a way to make it flourish and help people who live in the city instead of starting something new.

Also Grayson is right. Alton is cool as fuck, old town St. Charles is cool as fuck, and anywhere in St. Louis city limits is cool. I would avoid trying to do a large venue, it will fail, im sorry. Think Rust Revival maximum size.
