It wasnt too long ago when Chevy and Ford points and a condenser were $7.50. The last few times weve bought them theyve been $20.00 plus. Obviously there claiming the improvements in technology. Is there a parts house out there thats still selling them reasonable? Happy New Year!!
supply and demand. how many more sets of points and condensers do you REALLY think they're gonna sell? can't tell ya the last time i put in a set but my tractor still uses them... anyway, eclin use to be my preference
be careful, i've found the parts store near me sells two "grades", with a price difference of almost $20. cheap set was made overseas and had a much weaker spring i also noticed the arm was barely isolated from the ground, they would have worked but i was afraid of getting a road call.
thanks, my tractor could probably use a set too For SBC 283, 306, 327, SBF 292 and BBF 390 Int Harvester "77" 4 cyl Thanks, I guess we should'nt be surprised.
Now thats scary Last time I bought a set of points ,I turned around and put an Hei in instead ,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Don't skimp. Buy the good stuff. Stick with Standard Motor Products or Blue Streak. Echlin is now owned by Wells which is the cheapest crap on the planet, (AutoZone). Cheap stuff is cheap for a reason. The last thing you want is inferior points.
For the price of a few sets of points you can go with a Pertronix points eliminator setup and not have to worry about setting/cleaning/adjusting points again. But if you insist on sticking with points, then use the good stuff to get your money's worth.
I've converted my 348 to a Mallory Uni-Lite. It looks period correct, but the car starts faster & runs better.
