Try to be realistic. Givin the choice what would you build. I'm thinkin a 55 chevy 210, 427 rock crusher (love the racket), black with white top and some torque thrust D's.
Well lets see.......as soon as I am finished with my current project, I hope to build my 51 Chevy pickup, then my 27 T coupe, then my old lady's 50 Chevy four door, then my 51 chevy Belair, and last but not least my 49 Chevy fleetline. I'm only 28, I think I have time.
I'm seriously considering a 'clean' build. Brookville deuce roadster, TCI or similar frame, 428 SCJ/T-5, QC, etc. Maybe a highboy, maybe f/fendered, dunno - still squandering time at the work bench, thinking about it. In opposition to what gets the kudos here, I will use only NEW parts (no billet, though) except for the engine of course (if I was richer, I'd get one of Shelby's all aluminum FEs). alternative would be a 57 2dr wagon (Ford or Chev) with a big block of same make...but no gasser look - just 'street machinery' type hot rod. dj
I have a few.. unfortunatly there all O/T cars.. with a few different objectives.. my first would be an mg, jag suspension front and rear, with a hopped up 302 or 4.6 rover - to be a badass sportscar, 2nd would be the fun commuter car. also MG based, take out the pushrod 1800 4 popper and put in a 1.0 suzuki 3cyl with a small turbo mated to a samurai manual trans. - my figures say about 130hp with about 40-50mpg maybe more.. and at 1900lbs it would be quick enough not to be boring, lower it a bit and add stiffer sway bars. and finally take a 88-96 dakota 4x4 z the front frame portion and lower the back, and put in a twin turbo 360, mated to a 5 speed of some sort, and then onto a full time 4x4 transfer case. 450hp or so with limited slips front and rear that sure would hook up and go..
AFTER MY '35..... I have two cars that I have to decide on which to start and it's looking like the earlier one is winning out the bid. Choice A. 1933 Ford 3w done as a lakes coupe circa 1948. 59A Flathead with Weiand Cheater Heads and a Weiand 2x2 intake with 5" risers and a 4" Merc crank. Rolling attire will in the form of '35 Ford Wires with Firestone 7.00's out back and vintage 6.00's up front. Stance will be from a '33 Axle (Undropped) with perhaps a model A front crossmember and a slightly flattened stock rear crossmember. '39 Banjo with one of CrazydaddyO's T5 torque tube adapters and obviously a T5 trans. BLC-J headlights up front and '37 Chevy tail lights. 5" SW tach center mounted with 4 other curved glass gauges around it. Wide pleat bench seat done in dark hand rubbed leather and a 4 spoke steering wheel. That's the gist. The color is up in the air and could be dark maroon, dark brown, black or washington blue. Choice B. 1954 Chevy 150 with a 283 or a 327 and a single 4bble carb pushing 350-400hp. Lowered 2" all around and running 6.70 blackwalls on each end. Steel wheels painted black with stock '54 dog dish caps. Exterior would keep all original pieces and nothing shaved. Deep dark shiny black paint with a red interior using corvette materials. White Steering wheel and white shift knob attached to a Muncie or Super T10 and black carpet. I have a bunch of other details in my head but you get the idea.
soon as my '28 five window is done, im already trying to buy a '31 five window for a late '40s hot rod build!
only the baddest sled a 1950 merc ...or even a look alike of the little basterd ( james deans porche)
What's with the referencing a Model A as a 5 window? All Model A coupes were 5windows. The 5 window moniker was placed on succeeding years '32 and later when there was a 3 window in the lineup and you needed a way to know which coupe body style you were talking about. Frank
A 53 or 55 F100. Make it a mild custom, Not too fancy and really reliable. Probably use as a parts chaser, driver, shop truck etc.
O.K. I've changed my mind on the 55 chevy. I want a Willys now. Kidding. Awesome! Got any teaser pics?
Thats a great idea. Where I'm from there is a couple vintage shop trucks running around. Great exposure for a business no matter what the product.
I just "finished" my '55 Caddy...see the build here: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=329070&highlight=the+best+55+caddy+build and I've got a '48 Cadillac Sedanet waiting in the shed...problem is, I picked up a '60 Pontiac Catalina Safari wagon last year and it's in good shape, just needs a clean up...and my son presented me with a '60 Chevy Brookwood two door wagon for Christmas (and a super straight front clip)...now I know what to do with that big blok and built T-400 sitting in my garage...!!! R-
Oh this was a thread on what you would like to start on if you had your way? I thought it was what are you working on next which is why I mentioned my next projects. Now if I could have my way I think my '32 would be next on the list. Choice C. 1932 Ford 5w. Ionia frame with the front model a crossmember moved back two inches and the frame horns lobbed off. 331 Hemi with '54 heads built to shit with and old Polished Edelbrock intake with 6 94's on top. Hook that to a built G-Force T5 Trans and a banjo with live 9" axles floating in the rear. Rolling stock is 16x4.5 up front with 6.00 WW Firestones and 16x5" rears with 6.5" wide slicks with single cheater groove cut into the tire. Body would be painted metallic baby blue, wheels painted red and full Moon Disks, frame and suspension painted black. Interior would be perhaps a center steered, red upholstered single bomber seat, Bell 4 spoke steering wheel, Square roll bar yada yada yada!!! Mid 50's drag car!!!
