Now this car is perfect. Sure doesn't need a straight axle to make a statement. And less money and less work. Win,win situation.
"Back in the day" it was not done. But neither were 4 doors, but what do I know? I'm just an old fart.
This is absolute Galaxie perfection. I had close to 400 pics of 63 Galaxies before the grandkids killed my computer. These two photos are the best!!!!!
Your car is missing something!! Oh yeah! The 'glass teardrop hood and the screened in inner headlight buckets..
Just because it hasnt been photographed,Doesnt mean you shouldnt do it and a STRAIGHT AXLE outa a van or 50 ford /chevy or even a dodge would be a easy mix on that car, just bring the back up the same so it sits level and it will ride fine, these guys that want ya to leave it alone is fine but why not do what you like because that will be a stand out car and if you follow that theme the crowds will go nuts and the resto guys will shit lugnuts...............BUILD IT!!
I dont think any restorers will be shitting lugnuts over someone cutting up a '64 Galaxy, unless its a factory 390 stick or 427 car. As far as tasteless, excessively jacked up straight-axle cars shocking anyone, they are everywhere these days, hell there are already two posted on this thread. Might have had some shock value 10-15 years ago, but that has long since been used up. Now its just a big yawn, just like donks.
I actually dont mind this thing that much either, kinda rough, and I dont know if I would start with a more-door, but it looks alot like a lot of the axle cars I used to see on the street around here back in the late sixties early seventies. Better that the other two gawd awful circus wagons on here anyway.
Thanks for the compliments, and thanks for enlarging the pic. Thats the only shot I have on the computer and I've owned the car since 1993. Thanks again, Tom.
Yea, thats bad-ass. Big tube FE headers make more of a statement than a straight axle any day of the week.
Just for giggles, heres a video of the "Mighty" Street Freak in "action". <object height="385" width="480"> <embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/m18vQOVFkCo?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" height="385" width="480"></object>
Go watch HOLLYWOOD KNIGHTS & check out the '61 Starliner JIMMY SHINE"S Wife drives. Just a sort shot of it, Sits High with Polished Slot Mags... Car is SUPER BITCHEN !! '64 would look Awsome set up like that.
I like the way a 63 sits with a straight axle. I can't nor want to imagine a 67 Galaxie 500 jacked. They look too good low slung with dual cannon exhausts. I would like that 4 door Galaxie lifted, cruise that around in the streets, 4 friends in tow, pissing off the ricers.
This one is the holy grail of 64 Galaxies. Latham supercharged 427/4 speed plus a Turbonique drag axel.
Another reason why you should never build a street freak. You won't be able to do a proper burn out. Awesomely redneck!
