I finally got my new project! We made the deal tonight, I pick it up wednesday. It's a 26/7 T sedan - and it was a steal. I'm not saying how much yet...

The owner is a very cool guy with a studebaker land speed car, a big block satellite, a henry J, and some cool o/t trucks. He was thinking about racing the T, which is probably why he liked the 11 1/2" chop so much! It sounds like alot, cause it is, but it looks sooooo right.

Plan is to get it home, clear out garage, and start collecting parts. No r** r**, but it wont be done when I start driving it, body work is last on the list. The basic idea is: an "A" frame z'd into a 2x4 tube frame, with a big kick n the back. Drop axle, in the front, not sure in the rear, but it has to be real low, and still fit some kind of tiny back seat for the boy. No firm plans on engine or wheels yet, but it will be a v8, stick, and probably steel wheels. I'm setting a crazy low budget to get it on the road, but it needs to be safe enough for the family. That's it so far, I'll keep ya updated!

I hope you are no taller than 4' - 10" tall as with that much chop and if you plan a low slung chassis with even a 2" channel you will never fit in it even sitting on a slab of 1" foam on the floor.

how do you know? no mention of a channel ?....i guess 700 posts in 8 months makes you an expert?

Just guessing as most of these low slung belly dragging cars seem to also include a channel.

As far as post count goes and how long a period of time, well thats irrelevant. I've been around for enough years to know the physical limitations of Model T sedans.

But maybe I'm not an expert like you are, who knows.

So save your smart ass comments for your wife or kids, or someone else you can push around.

Or go kick your dog :p

Best way to plan any build is to gather the parts you have and place them in some 'semblance of a final position. Then simulate the rest with plywood, 2x4's, and milk crates. Then sit in it to see if you fit. Are all the rest of the parts (engine, steering, axles and suspension) gonna fit too?

Some of the best parts of a project are the planning stages.

    Thanks all.

    1) I am 6'1, and I don't know how it will all fit - I've only seen the car once, and never owned anything older than a '54. Good news is the owner kept all the chopped out pieces, so I can set it up however I like. I figured on sitting on the floor one way or another, but until it's home, there's no telling what I'll do.

    2) I agree - one of the best parts of the project is the mockup, finding all the bits and pieces, mocking it up, moving it around. It's like building it in your head, but you can actually see and touch it. Since I don't know what mtr/trans I'm using, or steering, or anything really, I don't know what will fit, or how I'm going to pull all off.

    3) I KNOW THE CHOP IS NOT FOR EVERYONE. I am not here to start a fight with anyone about right or wrong; but it's my car, and I'll build it however I want. Crazy chops are nothing new, and this ain't gonna be a daily driver. If it looks dumb, I'll raise it up.

Sometime next week, I should have it in the garage, and I can start fiddilin around with it. I'll get smoe better pics then.

Fitting in it comfortably should be no problem. It's just getting in and out of it gracefully is a problem that I've developed since I've put a roof on mine.

That looks great and I am sure you can make it work with that chop.On a T I would rather have too much chop then too little, cause that Tall T look just doesnt do it for me.

  24. I like it. Chop and all. Would be a real knuckle dragger for someone whos 6'1".

The chop looks evil. I'm actually building one as well that I was hoping to have about a 10.5 to 11in chop because I haven't really seen a successful one done yet.

Regarding severe chops I'm not an expert by any means because I'm just a dumb kid, but how can we forget the inspiration coming from the early dry lakes era. Tall T + Large Chop = Less drag, right?

I just finished the chassis on mine, its going to be as low as it can be with traditional modifications and will be a completely traditional build with a flathead and banjo rear for now. I'll be posting a build thread soon. Good Luck with the build.
