This thread rocks! I love these haulers, too cool. I have a question though, how come everyone talks crap if someone trailers their car, but if it was on a truck it would be cool??? Just sayin'.

Here is one of the coolest setups I have seen. Up at Crusin' Grand in Escondido last year during Nitro Night.

...here's one I just bought. It slipped out of my grasp twice until I found it listed on EBay. Don't know how often I'll use it but I've always wanted one, especially a crew cab. The cool factor is off the chart in my opinion. : )

It gets 10 miles a gallon loaded or unloaded, uphill or downhill with or against the wind.

And by the way, my wife loves it, ...believe it or not!!!

My old hauler and stock car from about 1970. The car is a 55 Ford Vicky and I believe the truck was a 1958 GMC. Those were fun times.

  21. As far as I am concerned car haulers/massive trailers is one of those nails in the coffin that help ruin drag racing. Back in the day,,,trailers had to be moved and parked out in the back 40. The pits were a much better place in those days.
    JMO though

  22. We took this picture on the way home from Bowling Green..That's our "altered" on the open trailer.
The hauler was returning from a Pro Stock race in Kansas.

what a difference 50 years makes!!!

  24. reality is towing on an open trailer isn't real practical anymore..great for short hauls..
Ours was about a 600 mile one way.

Take a good look at Petty's hauler, then check out the "Snakes" hauler a few posts later. That's the same one.

When it comes to old school ramp trucks, Bobby Lagana Sr. of "Twilight Zone" drag racing fame is well known here in the northeast for not submitting to the modernized mega-hauler style we see almost all nitro racers subscribe to today-- While I'm sure that his limited budget might have a little something to do with his refusal to switch to a big-dollar modern hauler, he does appear to be quite content with his ancient form of race car towing... Anyways, below is a link to a FREE youtube video featuring drag racers doing "I.Ds" for Drag Racing Underground-- Some of the personalities include "Jungle" Pam, "Brooklyn Heavy" and Shirley Muldowney-- However, the reason why I'm posting this video link in this particular thread is because at 5:05 you see an aging Bobby Lagana Sr. with his aging ramp truck hauler, pulling out of Vitalies' Bar & Grill, formerly known as Cantories' (for you real old timers who are aware of the joint's colorful history), the drinking & eating establishment just down the road from ETown Raceway Park... The Lagana family tow their fueler the way that most racers did back in the day-- with an open-air ramp truck, making the race car completely visible to all the other motorists on the road...

The old Lagana ramp truck appears around 5:05...

  28. Ditto. I grew up 3 miles from Woodburn Drag Strip and I remember Ed "Ace" Mccullogh towing his dragster down from Spokane on a flatbed trailer (with 2X10 planks for side rails) behind an old station wagon. And Roland Leong's setup wasn't much fancier. His wagon had fake woodgrain on the sides, and a hemi, though...
