Got a call Tuesday from Jim Smith at Hot Rod Garage... Larry, get your butt over here and bring your camera.

I show up and here is this beautiful 1949 Caddy race car being prepped for the Mexican 2000 mile road race La Carrera Panamericana. Hot Rod Garage built the whole car.

Check out the youtube dyno pull... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7U3706Qd478

    Turn it up LOUD

Now, go here to the blog to see what they started with...a beautiful fully restored dual 4 barrel '49 Caddy... www.Panam2010.com

This thing has an Art Morrison chassis and a LS9 ZR-1 Corvette Supercharged-Intercooled 6.2 litre V8 with a Jericho 5-speed pumping out 675hp and 580hp to the rear wheels...top speed is 160mph. This will run in the Unlimited class with Ferrari's and Maseratti's and Porches.

Hayden Groendyke is the owner/driver (yes, Groendyke Trucking).

Seems Danny and Bruce at Bruce's Rod Shop in Texas are also building a couple of cars...one's a 1953 Studebaker. Danny's trying to get pics to post also.

Jason will add something about the build later. He also will be flown down to Mexico to be part of the crew...lucky basturd.

Jim says let's pull it outside for the pics...then when Brad is backing it out of the shop, Jim says hey Larry, wanna go for a ride?

I have NEVER been in a car that pulled so hard thru the gears! Zero to 115mph in under 5 seconds! Everytime that Jericho tranny shifts without the clutch, it feels like someone hit you in the back with a baseball bat!...permanent grin...

The link to the dyno pull doesnt seem to work try this : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7U3706Qd478 think my ol' buddy larry might have exagerated the 0 to 115mph just a tiny bit, but I think he may have pee'd his pants under 5 seconds though! .:D It is really fast but it also weighs 4120lb. here is a shot of it out at Hallett road track the other day shot by Charlie samples the co-pilot and photo guru. hope Danny gets some pics of their Studebaker up soon I know it will be killer!

Wish us luck VIVA MEXICO !!!!

That is pretty freaking awesome!! Who owns it? And just curious, why did they pick that car, I love it but was wondering their reasoning.

YIKES!!! Would THAT be fun to drive or what?? Beautiful and scary fast. A great combination.

  12. That car is definitely cool! I saw it in Pawnee about a month ago when we had a little get together for dinner. I am sure it is a wild ride!

That ZR-1 motor can be ordered right out of the GM catalog. I dig it man. I just put an Art Morrison chassis under my 49 Cad but I doubt it'll be fun to drive into the corners.

The Hot Rod Garage is always building somthing kool. Will the car be at the shop at the
open house or is it already gone? I'd love to see it finished.

That is my kind of Race car.

    Happy Trails,

    Mick

Thanks Mick, the car is already there, passed tech today and we got our stickers to race! who hoo ! Brad and I fly out tomorrow and qualifying on thursday and away we go racing through mexico on Friday . We are crew so we will work on the car every evening to prep for the next set of sections each day. I was hoping to have it back for the open house but the race is over the 28th and open house is the 30th so we will fly home the 29th with wild tales of racing and adventure to tell.

see ya at the shop on the 30th Jason HRG

Hey guys, just saw yesterday this Caddy in person at tech inspection and it has so many tricky details...impressive at list.
The only suggestion here is ...replace those beautiful rims with some steelies ,they will be gone very soon under the harsh mexican roads for so long...fingers crossed for you guys ...and welcome to the fun!
    Wish you the best...
