came in at 8:00 A.M. made coffee checked emails opened up the HAMB ate a burrito off the lunch truck spent 3 minutes doing some work on the computer spent 5 minutes cleaning up some machines for the salesman to pick up 12:45 and that could be all I do for today and I don't go home til 4:30. gonna read my Pat Ganahl book in a minute here. when I got hired the VP told me I should get a TV since there would be a lot of down time. I work for a great company.
Lot of that going around, and "we, the people" are picking up the tab. And what's worse are the people that are not employed by Uncle Sam, but are still reaping the benefits that my children will end up paying for. I'm only on the Hamb when I'm not on the clock. I was hired to work, that's what I do. Something about a "work ethic" that my grandfather taught me.
I have to agree with you. I am fortunate enough to have the kind of job that gives me free time to visit here. While still being able to get the job done and earn a living honestly. The people who "work" for the government and do nothing are no better than blood sucking parasites and bring everyone down.
Just like doodling during a meeting... I find that a QUICK bounce around in here in between tasks clears my head and keeps me sane. Other people smoke, other people walk around the building and BS about "the game" last night, or go to the snack machines... I hit the HAMB for a page or two and get back to work. I can't justify HOURS of HAMB'ing unless the whole department is in between tasks and our bosses imply that we should stay at our desks and "look busy".
My normal work day is 2 hrs of busting ass to get things done and 2 or 3 hrs of slack time before busting ass again and once my assigned training is done and I am up to date on everything for work I can read or surf the net. With that I spend way too much time on the HAMB at work.
I drive a utilities service van from 8am-7pm Wed-Sat and I have a laptop with a cellular 3G connection in my van, so needless to say any downtime between jobs or lunchbreaks are spent soaking up the HAMB.
Thank god for wireless internet cards!... If i wasn't checking the HAMB out i'd be napping in my work truck right about now!
Catching up on the HAMB while waiting for calls @ the firehouse. 60-hour stretch, I don't get off until 7pm Sunday. Picked up extra shifts to help fund a hotrod habit...
Sounds like me, I flip between screens. It works well. I get bored sitting at a computer all day, something has to provide a little entertainment
Govt employee here, Not Uncle Sam but in our case Uncle John It's 11.15 pm and I'm waiting for my ride home from the daily grind. Permanent afternoon shift, 4 days on and 2 off. It leads to a crappy social life but once the works done..Viva L'Hamb. Still on the clock tho'.
