whats your take on the price?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by model A hooligan, Sep 21, 2010.

  1. okay so you guys know i have a 29 coupe im building, and have been thinkin about selling my restored vw to fund the cost.

well i found a running(327) 31 ford coype chopped and chaneld(chaneld a bit much) dropped axle, looks pretty traditional except for the whitewalls and chromies.

its missing the trunk, floor (i can make that tho) and the rear of the body in the trunk area is cut out. i imagine id have to find a rear body section to fix it right,

anyhow its priced at about 7k. what do you folks think? and how about the woth of mine.

    29 coupe,355 chevy,350 trans,socal dropped axle,posies super slider, chopped 3 inches. ford f1 column with A flange. mustang rear. speedway brake cylinder/pedal.

needs wiring, brake lines, radiator made to work with this engine and a few small things.

this is my car. i do have the trunk. the wires would be going on the other car tho.

it does have a firewall now. and the rear end is mounted on a 2 link design

Need pics of the one you are talking about buying.

  4. Sounds like they both need work and you already have the 29.

I'm a cheap ass so I'm not going to be a good sounding board on that price.

here it is . cant see the missing trunk and damaged rear end but i know its there i seen it a few months ago. this car does run and drive tho. supposed to be a 327 and 4 speed i think.

the wheels HAVE to go, and its a bit chaneld for me but i think it could be cool.

pornbeaner, your a cool kat. you can tell me! if you dont like the idea how much do you think my car will take? i think mine has the potential to be a bit cooler since i didnt chanel mine. just 3 inch chop,4 inch z in rear and reversed eye with 4 inch axle

  6. I'm confused, (and that's not hard to do) are you asking what we think the coupe you have pictured is worth or what the one we can't see is worth. Based on your description of the one we can't see I'd say it's about right at 7K. but a picture is worth 1000 words. The one in the picture looks like a good start but not in the 7K area. I'd say more in the 3-4K range.

  7. Well now that I can see both I'd say work with what you have. I don't like his as much as yours, and I would never make that trade. But I don't like heavy channeled cars

  8. i just added a pic of the other guys car. the taller one is mine. and it doesnt have a super long way to go i dont think. i listed what it still needs.

the other car is running but the whole ass end needs to be fixed, most likely needing another rear body section to get it right.

my questions are. with what i listed mine needing, how much more would it take to finish, and would it be wise to sale my car and buy the other one.

im selling my restored vw that i build to get the money to either buy that guys car or finish mine. wich i will be getting around 6k for my car if i play my cards right.

  9. oldschool- me to! i dont like how much channel it has, but it runs and things here arent going so well i dont have much time to finish mine if i decide to keep it.

i dont like his channel, wheels, and the body in the rear damage. i would use my wires on his car if i got it.

any way to 'un-channe' it a bit? i like the body higher that the tires in the back, it looks more traditional that way.

hey hooligan , you just needing some posts or what ?
    two words.....seek-help

  12. haha, its got a 4 speed tho and a 327, id prefer that over my 350,350 combo. (its all i hade the money for) the rest is as traditional as i can.

also, you guys arent biased on the years? most folks prefere the 30/31 over the 28/29

what does that mean bowtie? isnt that kind of rude?

these posts happen all the time, iv seen WAY worse. iv been building my car. an opertunity has came up and i wanted other hot rodders take on it.

If it was me I'd keep yours and use the money from the VW to finish it.

  15. honestly i dont know bowtie, iv never been into those types of cars so i wouldnt know what the wheels are from. i just think they are out of place on that car.

satin-thats most likely what i will end up doing.

I would not pay 7K for that junk heap.....use your money and finish the car you have started.

Simple as that...if you want a 4 speed...put one in the one you have.

    Nuff Said!

So, I didn't see what kind of VW...is it a driver...??? Does it need work...??? Is it worth seven grand...

The seven thousand you'd spend for the other coop would put you way over the top on the finish of your coop...

Would I buy either...??? No...I'm not a square body guy, but if I were you (and thankfully I'm not), I'd spend more time and money on the one you've got and sell the VW...I'm cheap too...my son accuses me of living in the 1970's.

  20. the vw is a show car.

id like to get by with putting around 3 grand more in my coupe if i could. ill be getting around 6k for my otehr car i think, and the rest will pay for bills.

FWIW, when nearing a juncture on a car, I'll take paper and pen and list everything needed to get the car to a running, driving state (this does not include paint, bodywork and interior)...you'd be surprised how little you'll actually need...(and, unfortunately, the reverse is true as well)...that'll give you an accurate $$ amount you'll need...

However, if the VW goes away, the first thing I'd do is pay the bills, then use the rest on the coop...there's nothing worse than going into debt to build a car, then you're digging out of a hole.

Sell the VW and keep your A.You can always change the motor and trans at a later date.

  27. Don't even think about that other car anymore. Concentrate on YOUR'S and build it the way YOU want it. Patience, Patience, PATIENCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Trade him even up for the volkswagon .

  29. Nope. You've got it wrong. He's got you UP to 6K. You dont have him DOWN to 6K. That this is a heap. I wouldnt pay 3K for it. The engine NOR the 4 speed make it a special car.

Well... since I know you have a paper work situation on the one you have I must ask if trading about is going to resolve the situation, if not you will just be trading a pain in the right buttock for a pain in the left buttock and inserting some cash in the slot in the middle, I would keep your original, you will find that uncuts are going to be worth a lot more, you can actually fit a six foot guy in an uncut.Plus this other car has already gone in a direction that I personally would not have gone and it seems committed.
