king pin bushings

    Im building a 1931 ford pickup truck and have been working on the front end..im running juice brakes and I got some old 1937 ford spindels to use. I ordered new king pins that came with king pin bushings. I was wondering do I have to put the new bushings in or could I use the old ones. how do I know if the old king pin bushings are good of not?

    the old bushing in the spindel still fit the new king pin kinda snug. still say go with the new ones?

    I'd use the new bushings, and have them line-bored to the proper tolerances by a machinist. It's cheap, and you'll likely never have to give them a second thought again.

    The best way to have them fit right and last the longest is to have them honed on a Sunnen or similar hone in a machine shop. There are other ways to do it but that will give you the best overall fit and the best service out of the new pins and bushings in the long run.
     
  7. The new bushings need to be reamed. The king pins should be .812....you can do this yourself with an adjustable reamer that is long enough to be centered on the other bushing....... you sneak up to around .816....
