I need some help removing steel axle tubs from the magnisium halibrand side bells of my quickchange rearend. I've removed the set screws but I can't budge the axles. I'm worried about damaging the mag. side bells.

Hang the bells from the ceiling and either pack them with dry ice, or heat them, either way the tubes should fall out. I think the dry ice might be better for magnesium, not sure.

They won't fit in my oven. Any ideas what I could use for heat other than the torches.

    Try using a heat gun.

It's a standard wall oven. if I put the bells in, the shafts would be sticking out the front and I wouldn't be able to close the door. I have a good heat gun so I'll try that for now.

heat will help,, but I also did it buy bolting a large slide hammer on the bearing end of the steel tube and bolting the magnesium bell to something and it pulled the tube and bell apart without any damage!!!

do you care about the steel tubes?

if not, saw them off near the bell, then run a bead of weld around the inside. they'll fall apart.

Warm them up with a torch and they will come apart
same when reinstalling .....warm the bell and then slip the tube in

I've tried the heat gun and didn't work. Any idea what I need to heat the oven to and how long I should leave them in the oven.

At mid-day on a sunny day lay them outside in the sun for an hour, shade the tube with a cardboard box.
