I never met Leonard. Leonard passed away a few months ago, so I never will meet him. My buddy Willie and I are car guys, and we have breakfast together every Thursday. Willie mentioned that his friend Leonard had left one of his prized possessions to Willie upon his death. A 1958 Chrysler New Yorker that had been in storage for decades. Willie had never even seen the car, but had a few pictures sent to him. "Are you kidding me?" I said. "I'm in love with Exner era fin cars, and this is one of the best! " Willie has had a pretty bad bout of health problems lately and didnt want to really own another project. " It's yours if you want it - free " he said ..."only problem is it's a thousand miles away." " I'll take it!" I arranged for having it shipped to me and today it arrived. It has some surface rust and primer spots, but the body is as nice as I've seen. The interior is like new, and It sports a 392 Hemi. Extra bumpers, grille, taillights, transmission, dash, original hubcaps and 4 boxes of extra parts. I really dont know what I'll do with the car either, But I LOVE this beast! Nicer than the car however is the friendship that exists between good buddies like Willie and Leonard -who I never met.
wow, awesome score, it would really make a nice mild custom with a little get up and go-go... you have a great friend.
I would say that the friendship you and Willie have is special as well. You're a lucky man, a good friend and a car with tons of possibilities ! Good for You. firstnomad www.angelfire.com/jazz/flatlandstudio
That's a great looking car, might be the best of the fin cars. I think you should call it the L.W. Special Enjoy the new ride. chuck
Very cool friend and story. I'm sure it's in good hands. here's the direction I would go; one of my favorite customs-the Cliff Inman car. Not sure if the original still exists, but the look is dead on!
It don't get any getter than that. A Good Friend and great car. Have Willie come over and tell you stories about him and Leonard while you work on the car.
