Ahhhh I remember those good old days, waiting in line on even numbered days for gas on my way to college and then on the way back, if I struck out in the morning. Memories!

Oh Firey, you're bringing back the memories.

I was too young to see the Purvis Cars shop but i never forget what a building looks like in Dandy. The left side of the shop eventually became Dandy Speed Shop while the other half was used by Autobarn. Always a great hangout on a Thursday/Friday/Saturday and sometimes Sunday night. Dandy by the way was and always will be Melbourne's street racing capital although those days are long passed thanks to the Fast and Furious crowd. Many of Australia's past and present National Champions plied their craft on the streets in and around this area.

    Thanks.

  22. Somebody said Lassie.... Lassie was my cousin.

My great Uncles, Rudd and Frank Weatherwax were trainers of Lassie, Old Yeller, Toto and other famous dogs.

Actually Lassie was his screen name, his real name was Pal. Pal died in 1958 and is one of 3 dogs with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Pal was brought to Rudd at 8 months old to break a problem of chasing motorcycles. The owner never returned to claim him.

Rudd gave Pal to a friend but then heard a movie was being made called Lassie, Come Home, so he bought Pal back for $10.00.

Pal performed in the first 2 episodes of the TV series Lassie, then the job was handed over to Lassie Jr who later died of cancer. 8 generations of "Lassie" have performed over the years, all of them were males.
