This will be my second year at Bonneville. I was wondering about somethings? What type of scanner is a good scanner to use to listen to the times over the vhf? we listened to the radio in the car but they lagged behind real bad. Is there something i can get at radio shack? Second: last year there was a thread here and in Hot Rod Magazine that there was a sight of a aircraft crash where someone found the pilot's dog tags. where is that sight and can anyone tell me how to get there? third: what else is there to do while out there? I saw here that they gave a tour of the old hangar one day? i missed that last year. what other things are going on that I might not want to miss?
When we competed in 2007 everything was done over th CB radio so you want a good handheld if you are walking around or one in the car if you are driving around. David
last year i used a radio shack pro-162 scanner. didnt seem to pick up the cb broadcast that well. needs new antenna. here is the dog tag story from the scta site. http://www.scta-bni.org/pdf/Vanley_story.pdf tim
I recommend going to the WWII era hanger! It was so interesting and is quite a place to take a photo of your car. We all went there last year around sun set and got some great pictures. We use the radio in the truck to listen to the broadcast on the track.
Yes, CB is the main communication used between tower and racers. It switches between channel 1 and 10, usually, depending on interference.
