I think if memory serves me right my tires are 195/75-15 front and 215/75-15 in the rear. My wheels are 15x5 front and 15x7 rear.

I am out of town, but when I get home I will double check.

215/75-15s on 6 x 15s all around. Front wheel wells are raised 2" for clearance:

To my taste, 185/70s are gonna look too small -- even in front.

Everyone in this topic references a different sizing format (G78, 600, 215). I'm looking at ads and they don't show the G or 600 sizing method.

I understand what a 215 is, but what do you mean you had to raise the front wheel wells? I have a '49 and there is almost nothing above the tire and the top of the fender. the inner fender doesn't come near the tire. Is the'50 different?

The size formats you've noticed are from three different eras. Most shoeboxes were delivered with 670-15 tires, the G78 format came later (and I don't remember how the sizes ran), and a modern radial in 205-75R15 is about the same size as a 670.
My car has a Camaro front end under it, and the width is greater than the original Ford was, so the tires are further out toward the side of the car. It's also severely lowered, so with the tires up inside the fenders, it could barely steer. We raised the wheel wells (I'm talking about the cutout in the front fender) so that I could steer it. The body modification was done with great care so it isn't noticeable to most people.

Compare this picture with your car, and you'll notice that the distance from the top of the front wheel opening to the top of the fender is considerably less on mine.

Smallest tires I've ever seen was on the famous Junior Conways car 510 x 15 I think because of the way it was lowered. Gives you two things - lowers the car and fender clearance, but that small of a tire on that big of a car can increase your chances of tire failure. Depends how much you plan to drive it too. If you go with that small of a tire I would go bias ply since the side walls are stronger too.

I'm running 205/75/15's on my Shoebox coupe. I'm lowered 3" all around , foxcraft skirts in the rear with no tire rub at all.
