I'm looking for a great light silvery blue color to paint my car. I want it to look like an old school color, not too modern.
I think there's a mid-60's Buick or Oldsmobile blue that I've seen before.

    Any suggestions? Pictures?

    Thanks.

50s and 60s Volkswagens had some *really* nice metallic shades of silvery colors...

  4. mid-late sixtys pontiac had a nice color like that on their motors.
"Pontiac Blue Metalic" is the name. You can get it made for non motor application and hold the metalic.

Boy, probably a ton of colors to choose from.
Why not stop in a nearby paint jobber, a good one should be able to work with you and help you find what you are looking for. Also will have several paint chip books you can look through. Although won't be completely accurate (need to actually spray out a mixed color or see it on a vehicle or part), should help you narrow a color down, and will be more accurate then a computer monitor. One of the jobbers in town spent an hour with me when I was looking for a silver grey, with a lot of course metallic in the formula, that gave off a blueish cast.
Heres just one silvery blue I remember from all the time I spent reading car craft in my younger years. Was a 65 gto color called blue mist slate.

1970 Plymouth had B3 Ice Blue Metallic, B5 Blue Fire Metallic, and B7 Jamaica Blue metallic. The B5 was very close to the Marina Blue GM used in the same era.
    Check them here http://www.cowtownmopars.com/color.html
just remember that between photographing, digitizing, then viewing on your monitor, they will rarely look the same.

  8. My Uncle painted his car this color over a silver base and it really made it pop. came out a bit brighter than that 65 goat pic above.

I had a Fender stratocaster that was painted Ice Blue Metallic.
I remember reading that Fender used car colors and Ice Blue came from
a 60's Ford. I bet this might be it.

70's Cadillac had very high metallic "Firemist" colors, including a light blue.

Look at any of the cadillac paint chip colors from 62 to 72 and there's lot of cool silvers and blues.... group 90 or 92 some years...My favorite is ice blue firemist from 72

I've attached two pics of the 53 Studebaker I just finished for my dad (455 pontiac/th400/9")

Its "Tahatian Turquoise" from the 1969 4-4-2 I had. GM used across other lines, I think its pretty sharp.

    Autocolorlibrary.com was an awesome resource.

In high school the recently divorced mother of one of my best friends had a new ‘66 big block Corvette roadster with a light metallic blue that I have always thought was bitchin. I don’t know the name but I am sure you can get it. Their may be some ‘vette guys on here that will know.

Light blue doesn't usually do anything for me but, I thought this one looked pretty good.

Shoebox fords could be had in a light blue called artic glacier blue that I think looks great. Look on the link pigpen put and put in 1950 ford and you should see it. I agree best option would be go to the paint supply place and see samples and decide.
