Changing a Flat While Driving?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Richard D, Jun 13, 2010.

  1. I saw this on T.V. about thirty years ago, maybe on That's Incredible!. They were going for a world record, longest non-stop driving. Does anyone remember this?

I think you are referring to Louie Mattar and his 1947 Cadillac. In 1954 he set a non stop record from Anchorage Alaska to Mexico City. Mattar was featured in an article in Old Cars Weekly in 1981 or 1982.

I remember it,I believe he even had an iron in the car so you could make sure you were presentable upon arrival at your destination.

I remember that. I also seem to remember some strange video of him taking a drink from a fountain mounted somewhere at the back of the car or trailer?

I remember Louie Mattar's Garage on Market street in San Diego in the 60s. I worked in a wrecking yard about 2 blocks away on Island Street.
I was 14 years old. Does that make me an "Old Fart"?

Here is part 2 of the video. There is a clip of him drinking from the fountain mounted under the rear tail light and taking a shower off of the front fender. This clip is at the end if you dont want to listen to the stellar host blab on.
