    1. Samsonite suite-case with a dead dog in it. Hell, Who Knows?
    2. full can of R-12
    3. case of "Billy Beer" back in the 70's. Well....most of it was there :)
    4. 6' Fiberglass ladder. I got pulled over 10 minutes later by the owner.
    5. Buddy of mine found a drug stash in a leather shaving kit at the edge of a drainage culvert complete with cash. He's still alive....

  5. A Cragar S/S wheel with a McCreary slick, it's been shop art ever since.:D

  6. A guy I work with drove his bucket truck from Pebble Beach, CA to Watsonville, Ca. Probably about 30 miles one way. Somewhere in between, he managed to lose a 28' fiberglass extension ladder, 14' combo ladder, & 9' wooden manhole ladder. He remembered seeing the 28' ladder on the rack when he was driving on the highway. The other 2 ladders were on top of the big one.

Apparently, he let one of the other techs borrow the 28 footer & when he returned it he didn't strap them down. Upon realizing that he dropped the ladders, he immediately drove back the way he came. He never found them. Somebody scored & picked them up. Luckily the ladders never hit any cars or caused an accident.

Moral of the story, strap down your own ladders!

I've seen 2 mexicans in a fight over a ladder on the side of I77. My college roomate split a ladder right down the middle like a zipper with a Honda Civic. I've lost 2 plastic tool boxes with trailer hitch, tie downs and bungees inside.

I found a real heavy-duty pneumatic-tire hand truck, Made in USA, laying in the middle of the road. Had a hell of a time fitting it under the hatch of the Camaro I had at the time.

One of my most-used and favorite tools is a Plomb 1/2 x 9/16 deep offset box wrench I found when I was 7.

  10. When I was around eight years old or so, I was riding with my Dad on the way home from a rural gas station we came across three full cases of Tastycakes-yummy!!

A whole front clip to a 60 ford starliner on the side of the 405. Later on I met the owner of the car found out the guy was taking it to the paint shop to have it sprayed and forgot to bolt it to the frame before towing it to the shop. he said he was pretty surprised to see it missing when he got to the shop. I was pretty surprised to se it on the side of the freeway still have it in the back yard... Very little damage happened to it asked if he wanted it back about a year after the car was painted he declined and said it took him months to find a new clip

I found an aluminum canoe It was in great shape but you could see some sideways scratches on the bottom where it had slid off of the road. Lots of tools. A really nice tow strap. One of those metal coolers that was pretty beat up but had a few cold ones still in it. License plates and tons of just plain junk.

I know its not a roadside find, but its the only interesting thing I've ever found involving cars.

  18. Hmm, aside from all the baby moon hubcaps I find along the highway, here's my most memorable ones over the years:
A gun, an envelope with $280 in it, an almost new leather motorcycle jacket, a Snap-On electrical tool kit in the box, a chainsaw, a full 5-gallon can of gas, a few car stereos, tons of ratchet straps, porno mags, 2 VHS porns, "Jungle Juice" and "Ass Fuckers vol. 16" (I guess for all the unanswered questions from Ass Fuckers vols 1-15), a cheesy car club plaque that says "Insayne Kustomz", a Canon AE1 35mm camera, a lone Cragar S/S, someone's divorce papers, a steering wheel from a 60s Impala, an old Elgin outboard boat motor, and a backglass from a Shuffle Alley arcade bowling machine.

  19. I forgot I also found a working Cut off saw, a Ford rear axle - I also found an early ford torque tube but it was full of concrete??? I left that one & three 1960's car roof racks (but didn't find them all at the same time). I'm always on the look out for scrap steel to weigh in at the local wreckers.

By the way me & my wife were pissing our selves laughing about the free cat last night.

Doc - do they have Magpies in the US???

We were heading to Lincoln, NE when my buddy lost his bolts to his header on his 36. Usually I have extra bolts in a bag, but we used them on another car a few days earlier. So as we were on the side of the road I was looking around at all the stuff that had ended up in the grassy edge of the road and can't believe my luck when I found the right size bolt to get it fixed. We drove a few miles up the road to a WalMart and bought the rest.
You never know what you'll find on the side of the road. Used the bolts off a guard rail once too.

I found a 65-66 Chevy hubcap, the neat ones that look like mag wheels. Also an old VW hubcap that I gave to my brother-in-law. My dad was looking for boxes in people's trash and came upon one that was really heavy with some old bluejeans in it. Asked the home owner about them and they told my dad to "take 'em". He gets them home and finds an iPhone in one of the pockets. Goes back to the house again and the owner says it was probably his step-son's and he probably stole it, so "keep it". We researched the phone and it wasn't reported stolen and couldn't find the woman it belonged to. So, basically I finally got an iPhone!

I found some Mopar valve covers that I think were off a 70 Cuda, along with the fake woodgrain piece that goes on the center console. It was under a pile of little portable metal toolboxes filled with nuts and bolts and sockets. Strangest thing i've found was an older AMT 1967 GT500 model kit in the middle of Utah on I70...? Oh, and I found my own paycheck after it blew out of my open windows and spent 2 hours looking for it...

Best part is that the kit was still 100% complete, and only the engine halves were (poorly) glued together.

Sure glad I found that check. The wind was blowing HARD and my car badly needed a tank of gas.

I think we've all found a couple of them. Wish we could just leave them sitting there, but they have this way of following you down the road.

  29. Foud a woman's purse, had cash, ID, credit cards, makeup,etc.. I guess she left it on top of her car and drove off. Stopped and gave it (all) to a cop who was shooting radar a few miles away. He took my info and called me a few days later. I thought I was gonna get a "thank you" or a small reward. Nope, the asshole accused me of stealing it! He called back a few days later and said what I already guessed, that it fell off the ladys car. No "sorry" or anything like that. No good deed goes unpunished I guess.

  30. Some funny stories here! I don't know where to start, since when I was a kid we used to hunt along the roads for soda and beer bottles - they carried a deposit of 2cents each in Michigan. Some days we'd haul in $3 or $4 each, not bad for a couple of 10 year-old kids in the late 50s & early 60s.

We also found a lot of unopened bottles of soda, beer, and not very often but even wine. Dumped most of the beer out since we didn't know how old it was (ever see a litter of drunk puppies?). But we'd usually keep the wine, it went good with the girlie mags we found. I think our mom got suspicious when we would spend days in the tree fort after we smuggled our stash up there. . .

But we also found bunches of tools, a carton of new chimney caps, an unopen box with probly 20 or so Hershey bars, and money (mostly coins). But we also found lots of pictures and porno (french?) postcards. One was of a very happy guy - it wasn't his face that gave him away, and a couple of females - who well - had that happy guy seen them first his "smile" wouldn't have been quite so big. . .
