i ordered a 4" dropped axel from mas racing to fit 48 ford spindles and bought the disc kit from speedway for it a few years ago on a 66 econoline van. Didnt know anyone made kits for them back then. david
For what it is worth, thanks for posting and detailing all your trials and tribulations! I'm new here and getting motivated to get started again on my 63 E-line pickup. Your info (and all you other nuts who frequent this board) will be helpful. Stay tuned....
Oh, I'm FULL of trials and tribulations! Feel free to ask me questions! Please post an intro in the intro section though. It's the polite thing to do.
Full of something anyways... Joe if you haven't you should bring up your belt issue. Someone here will have the answer you seek.
There have been other updates, but this one keeps resurfacing for some reason. It's wired and runs, but... I have a wicked belt SCREAM from the serpentine belt. It's loud. At first I thought it was belt rub from a misaligned pulley, but it all seemed aligned (straight edge, etc). The belt was rubbing on the crank pulley though, so I moved the alternator back a bit. That corrected the rub, but not the noise. I replaced the tensioner. No help. I had the alternator tested. No problems with it. So, I'm left with the liklihood that it's either a) a bad WP pulley bearing, b) WP impellar is rubbing because I really tightened the WP to stop a leak, or c) something I haven't thought of.
Spray glass cleaner on the belt (on the side the pullys touch) while its running and see if the noise goes away. I have had belts make noise.
No idea! I got rid of the tensioner and used a shorter belt and it went away! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=521698&highlight=econoline
It's loud and hauls ass. I still have some bugs to work out, and need to do a LOT of rust repair, but it's going to be FUN to drive while I work on it
ok.. so now that you have the v8 and have got on it some, how does it feel? do you think your gona have to strengthen the frame any?
No, it feels plenty strong, but I now have some bumpsteer. I dind't really change any suspension stuff, so it's probably alignment. Other than that, it feels "heavier" not flimsy
I like your fire hydrant. I have an 1890 Patent Corey hydrant in front of my garage/shop; some very few people have. I'm wondering why guys are'nt putting the Olds Toronado/Cadillac El Dorado FWD powertrains in these old Ford/Chevy vans; sticking them in the rear of course. Have a friend from high school who had a similar van once; he painted it himself in his driveway, and it was a uniform orange peel texture front to rear, top to bottom. It was green, had the white "circus" spoke wheels on it, brakes drums painted yellow, and a C.B. radio, as that was the thing at the time. His handle was Green Weenie. The HAMB sure stirs up memories. Keep on truckin'. Butch/56sedandelivery.
