Guys, i've run a couple of search's and not come up with much. where have you located your license plate? as i see it, options are limited to either original location, frenched in it's original location or mounted either with or without a guard on the rear bumper or has someone in HAMB-land find a new option? what did you do?
mine will have 49 front license guards front and rear. that's the coolest way in my opinion. my buddy with a 53 took a 49 front gaurd and narrowed it to more closely fit the size of the plate and put it on the rear.
If it's not a custom like mine then just go the cheap way. I put these on my bumpers. https://www.nationalchevyassoc.com/1953_1954_front_license_plate_bracket_501
a guard like his, huh? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1949...r_Truck_Parts_Accessories?hash=item5ad873b83c
I filled in my mounting hole when I was getting ready for paint, so I made an "L" shaped bracket that fit between the splash pan and body to hold the plate, I dont run a plate on the front. But Ive been thinking about moving it to the bumper.
found this bracket that screws right into the hole in the rear splash pan, dont have one in front yet do to I havent installed my bumper
I looked through this web site , saw some interesting things. Anyone on H.A.M.B. ever bought anything from store? Was quality any good, were you satisfied?
I mounted mine inbetween the exhaust tips under the bumper. Its kind of "out of sight" so it doesnt stick out like a sore thumb. But still very ledgable from behind. No front plate required in OR. More ledgable than the plates I see stuffed up under the rear fenders of the sport bikes I see zippin around. Youd have to lay flat on your back to read em! haha!
I used a plastic license housing from a Caviler wagon, I don't know what year, and cut the trunk lid to fit. Then I made a clear plastic cover for it. To open the trunk manualy, you have to open the cover. (I have an electric latch.- Jim
I'm fond of the stock location (but then the car's pretty stock too) because I REALLY like the little art deco licence lamp in the pan... -Dave
Looks like youve been busy, Last time I saw it on here it was a new lace roof and no scallops. I dig the new look!
stock with the bumper guards on both ends, I like the frenched look, but on a tight budget I plan on leaving it alone!!
Actually this is why I have held off buying the new one piece bumpers from Chev's of the 40's. The new bumpers have two small holes near the center that I assume are for the license plate. I would prefer bumpers without the two holes. I intend to make retractable plates front and rear on the 54 I am building. John
