I actually looked into doing something like this a couple of years ago when there was a push on the board to ask Good Guys to move down town. I checked with the Arizona state fairgrounds and found that the prices were not that exorbitant, but that scheduling was! Seems that for many years in advance our fairgrounds are booked during the cool months almost constantly. I would never risk money on doing a summer event, so I kind of let it drop. I could be up for helping with this sort of thing if you guys realize that I have no prior experience, except for sales events in another business. My other suggestion is how about starting up CRUISING on Central again? I highlight CRUISING because that seems to be a lost art. The current definition is to park in the Park Central mall parking lot with lawn chairs and hang out plugging up the place. That always results in being kicked out! I'm talking good old fashioned cruising up and down Central on Friday and Saturday nights. Stop at the various restaurants,(patronize them!), meet up with friends and do the do! Just not in Park Centrals parking lot. Back in the old days that was off limits! One last thought - Elpolacko and I a few years ago, talked about putting together a reliability run running a route through Skull valley. Anybody interested in that? Might be a good time to revisit...

I just got off the phone with Nick Flores and he has some really good ideas. Lets keep this thread alive, get a bunch of us together in the next couple weeks and throw some ideas around. Lets look at doing a show in the fall which gives us plenty of time to organize and promote and do it right. There certainly seems like enough interest already after a few hours of posting this. Nick and I will come up with a time and meeting place ( or someone can suggest as well) and we'll post it and hopefully some people can show up. If anyone else has ideas for this or for a planning meeting, speak up !

    Thanks.

No, stayed at home and bought tools!

Sinners will be out of town on May 1. Should be available about any other time though.

Sounds like a plan to get something together.n Seems everybody wants to be the next "BigShow"!

road trip is always good up to payson then thru strawberry and to camp verde and back into town... I had spoke to the owner of western trails ranch out in morristown and that would be a kick ass place to have a show with multiple stages, parking and awesome food..... a little cruise for those who are out east or south and even a 25 to 30 mile cruise from central phoenix.. They were really cool to me and Sinner Ian when we brought up the idea to them
    Check it out http://www.westerntrailsranch.com/content/view/5/4/

Cool place Kurtis. How is the parking for cars ? Do they have room to do a decent size show as well as the general publics cars? I am up for breakfast, let me know when & where.

I'm not saying lets have the show in a few weeks, lets just figure out a good day for breakfast. When I talked with Kerry, we we're thinking sometime in October possibly for the event.

Damn - that's not a bad idea either! how about one of the big ones out on the salt river reservation? That's about as centrally located as it gets!

Not talking about the show, just the planning meeting.

Ocober would be good, just don't plan it on the same weekend as CHHR.

Sounds good to me, I am in.

Where do y'all need help at? I have Friday - Sunday off and every other weekend I have my kids (this is one of them). In July I am trying to get to Argentina for a couple of weeks to visit some friends and not too sure when I go to the UK again to visit (between late October and early November).

A show - I am in, if I am in town.
The Sinners and the Rattlers both have shows.

A cruise to somewhere - I am in, if I am in town.
The run to Tumbstone was cool. Think the Sinners organized that.

A morning or evening get together - I am in, if I am in town.
I already hit every cruise night I can make. Some weekend nights we hit more then one.

As far as a show goes, around the holidays there is not much local or anywhere else in the country for that matter.

  19. Where were you for the hot rod-a-rams's and greaseballs that happened at club congress, or the art show hot rod manifasto. All of these happened in Tucson from 1998-2006. You should talk the young guys that have hot rod shop at the conrner of 6th ave and drachman in downtown and get something going.

There are alot of shows with hot rods like the following

Rattlers 4th of july party and christmas party every year
Sinners runs to prescott and tombstone
The art show kulture shock that was last year with are very own jeem in it

The booze bar every thursday night( this should be over run with real hot rods instead of big sixty's cars with red wheels and primmer and lot of attitude)

The drag race show the fellow hambers just put on a few weeks ago.

All of these have been posted on the HAMB at one time or another. If you do something I will be will be there for the support. All of these examples above take alot of work and planning sometimes a year in advanced. Its hard work and sometimes takes awhile to gain a reputation for being good. The biggest thing I see is either too many cars that should not be there or way to much money for the working man to come. Just my two cents for what its worth.

The SW Nostalgia drags was cool, but The Blooze is tired. NO disrespect to Tumbleweed, he runs a great place and takes great care of everyone but we're looking to do something more involved then a Thursday night cruise in.

Kerry and I have kicked around a couple of dates and are still looking to put together a "commitee" meeting in the next couple weeks to get started on planning this whole thing. Probably the second weekend of May on a Saturday afterrnoon. Lets check some calendars and get ready to get down to business!

  21. Don't do the first weekend in may since that is rodders days in tucson where 4th ave is blocked off and everyone from phoenix goes down for the show.

This is a great thread. I am new to the Hot Rod scene and HAMB but I wondered why Phoenix didnt have something big like Viva and other shows. This is Phoenix, one of the largest in my opinion Auto and Motorcycle markets in the country.

With the right people and planning this could be huge!

I would be glad to donate time and anything else I can to contribute to getting this off the ground.

Check that... If you guys are interested in helping this event get off the ground PM Kerry or myself and we'll get the committee meeting sorted in the next couple weeks.

ps Kerry, I forgot to save your number in my phone if you wanna give a shout...

No reason why it can't be done, just as long as the "kulture"-pimps are kept at bay. I like the idea of a few good shows during the year, kind of what already happens with the Sinners and Rattlers get togethers and Chip (NeedLouvers?) hit it on the head with actually doing a cruise. We have enough asphalt in this urban sprawl to require five fill ups a day if you drove it all, no reason why we couldn't own three lanes of traffic for a few hours.

Seems like everytime I take out my car for a jaunt, I see a bunch of older vehicles doing the same..we just aren't going in the same direction.

If you are having a show somewhere, perhaps at a bar or somewhere else or you have vendors or you need to re-coup some money, "kulture" pimps money spend just as well as everyone elses. Should all show just be for people who have cars ? Like I said earlier, what better way to get someone involved with Hot Rodding then to let them hang with some cars. I get that it is about the cars mostly but car shows are social gatherings. Where would Good Guys be or other HUGE shows if they only let people with cars in ? Not saying we are throwing a GG's sized show but man what is it with people on here and all the hating of scenesters or Kulture people ? I don't get it......

If that is the case, I think that you should not be allowed to go watch live music anymore unless you are a musician and can actually play an instrument.

Lets just plan a cool show and let the people who show up have a good time.

There is a distinct difference in shows for people who enjoy cars and people who enjoy fashion masturbation.

I don't think I need to explain myself, rather to be more succinct, the difference between a "kulture"-pimp show and a traditional show is as a comparison to "Old Skool Rodz" and "Car Kulture Deluxe" is to "Rolls and Pleats" or "Mag-neto" magazines. And even they allow for some foolish nonsense but it isn't the focus as some bigger shows in this state have tried to cater to and wonder why there isn't anyone showing up.

Well, I'm not gonna argue but why do people get so worked up about the way people like to dress ? I am certainly missing something. Too me it just gets tiring listening to people complain. If we do a show, I am not going to turn people down because they may be a scenester if that is what you want to call them. If that is the case then why does'nt everyone from the HAMB that is interested just meet up in a parking lot somewhere and call it good? There seems to be some genuine interest from some people on here in trying to put on a show that could possibly turn into something and then there are those who only want a show with non-"scenesters".

I read Ol' Skool Rodz and Car Kulture Deluxe as well as Rolls and Pleats, etc......So, maybe I should not have too much of a say in this because even though I have a car and drive it, I like the social part of it and am into the kulture & music so I may be a little too scenester for some of you.

Lets just plan a show, hope for a good turn out of cars and people, if we have vendors, hopefully they'll make money, and hope everyone enjoys themselves. If you don't like a certain car that is there, walk by it to the ones you do like. If you don't like the way a person is dressed, then nobody is forcing you to look at or talk to them.

Maybe it is because I have had a couple beers tonight but I just get tired of people that point out faults or seem to complain before there has actually been a show (or complain about a show). I know you are just speaking your opinion, so why don't you get involved when we have the committee meeting and throw in your suggestions?

  28. I think the Tortilla Flats run already mentioned would be really cool. That old Saloon at Goldfield is actually a cool hangout. I saw a guy leave there so drunk one Friday he fell off his horse. I bet you could rent some space at Falcon Field somewhere and make the run from there- the scenery is unbeatable.

There is also Downtown Mesa- it's way cool for cruising, and they are having more and more organized events there so they're friendly to it. But it IS mesa lOl.

Tempe is definitely centrally located- but is crowded and high-rent no matter where you look. Mesa Riverview is only a mile from the Tempe border, and they rent out their theater district. You're just a quick cruise to Tempe Town lake and Mill Ave from there, but they might not like you hooligans layin rubber all over their fancy pavement.

A cruise is a cool idea and that should be easy to set up. Much more so than a show....
