I haven't started a new thread in a while and thought this project might be cool to follow. I've been wanting to build a quick/frugal modified for a while and thought it was finally a good time considering the Jalopy Showdown was about 6 weeks away at that point. I gathered enough parts to be able to start the chassis and it just so happens that a good friend of mine (a local car collector, you know who you are) just bought a '37 Ford that was getting a full driveline replacement and that ended up being the last piece of the puzzle to get the ball rolling. So without going into too much detail it's a '27 body (glass) on Model A rails that are boxed and switched from side to side. A kick up in the front with a suicide perch '35 axle and split bones with the spring pivots mounted in them. A Sprint car box and Ansen swing pedals. It will be powered by a 85 horse Flathead with a shortened torque tube and a '37 banjo and rolling on wide 5's. The body will have steel doors and hood/sides with a Curtis style nose and some type of scallops. I started the car last Thursday night and this is where I'm at a week later (about eighteen hours of work). I'll post updates as I go.

I didn't get as much done this past weekend as I should have. Instead I was at a swapmeet for most of Sat and Sun, but I did pick up a couple a key parts I needed. As far as progress goes Lowdug and I got the shocks mounted up front and exhaust ran (by means of cool pipes Doug had laying around) and grille shell mounted. Last night I built and hung one door frame and cut down some hood sides from a 30/31 Model A I had. Hopefully I'll get the rear axle soon and get the rear of the car wrapped up.

A race to finish them, or a race around the track? Going now to pick up the rear from Doug Poteet. More pics soon. Later.

Derrick, wow! that thing is gonna be sweet. Especially with your eye for detail good luck on the build and maybe I will be able to make this show this year. If so I will be looking for this one.

Spent a WHILE last night pulling the rear end apart, thank God for those KR Wilson hub pullers. After breaking 2 other in the process, this is the ONLY puller to use on old Ford hubs. New progress pics soon, this is an " after hours " only project so I'm sure some other guys will catch up to me soon. Back to work.

What are the shocks? I have the same ones but don't know what they are off.

By the way, how do you guys build a car in weeks when it takes me years?

    Derrick...don't forget you're working with a handicap.....Fists Up!!!! :)

Still haven't started on Bill's. Had to make room today.

We won't be able to really race but maybe the parade laps before the laps start.

After Clark left I couldn't help myself and pulled out the frame table. I put the body on the frame rails to see what it was going to look like. I have pics but they will have to wait till tomorrow I can't find the damn cord to download them.

Fists up..that's funny. Had a lot of paint work to do at the shop last night so I had to do some clean type stuff so I made a hood and finished up the pass door skin. My shop actually has many "handicaps", I take advantage of the tax breaks.

I was told the shocks were mid 30's Chevy, they were a $15 swapmeet item.
By looking at your build pics, I'm pretty sure your car is at a higher level. The time is in the details and finish work. That's one of the reasons for this project is to take a break from that and just have some fun. I really like your ride by the way.:D

'Fists up' is a great name! How bout a parts list of what you need. I have some stuff laying around that needs to be used. I'd donate them if needed.
