A few years ago, we featured an article on Otto Crocker that was published in a 1951 edition of Popular Mechanics. Otto was a watch maker with an intense interest in both time and speed. He began to m... <BR><BR>To read the rest of this blog entry from The Jalopy Journal, click here.
Great. Now I'm out $380. Thanks a lot Ryan. That is the last thing I needed right now. I ordered one. P.S. I have always wondered what the tachymeter thing was for.
Mmmmm, that seiko is nice. I wear the seiko diver, indestructible... or you could get the best of both with this....
I have used mine to write speeding tickets. I taught every officer I had trained to do the same. No need for radar when you have a tachymetre and a mile marker.
Thanks a lot Ryan, something else I want now! Let's see, the Otto Crocker would have a crusted salt face with engine turned hands and bezel, and the alarm would sound like an uncorked flathead... right? I'll take two!
And just in case they make a Jalopy Journal version like the one pictured above, I'll take one of those too, with a distressed leather wrist strap please.
A huge + 1 on this one. I love my old pocket watches and my wind up watches. Wouldn't mind it being a quartz to keep it super accurate. So maybe that's a plus two then.
In the aviation world the Breitling is the watch to have. The Tag Heuers are the walmart of watches compaired to a Breitling. With that said, i never be able to afford either....... http://www.breitling.com/en/index.php#/home/
That's a false generalization if there ever was one. Breitling has made some incredible watches... and they still do... but we are talking about tool watches here... not bling watches.
To say that Brietling watches are "bling" is sacrilege. Rolex is bling, Movado is bling, Brietlings are function first, they just happen to make them look like the quality time pieces they are. You truly get what you pay for.
Rolex and Breitling are both fashion watches these days... Mostly... Breitling does still have a real pilot watch or two available however... That said, Rolex is one of the ultimate tool watches... Behold the military submariner:
Yes, from another watch freak... I love chronographs, military watches, diver watches, etc. Will be interesting to see where this goes...
This is still my favorite watch purchase? + it helps when I drive my buick because the speedo does not work.
REALLY????? I just googled "Breitling" and saw a $100,000 watch! Most were $5k - $20k. What exactly does a $20,000 watch do to justify saying "you get what you pay for"?????? What are you really getting for $20k? Face it, expensive watches are an ego boost, that's about it. I have a $50 watch that keeps great time. What else can it do to make it worth thousands? I'm not knocking you guys that collect watches. I can see how someone would dig collecting watches. Cool pieces of machinery. I just don't get why someone would pay so much.
I like watches and enjoyed this I also finally learned what tachymeter or whatever is. Now I need to buy a new watch with it.
Ive liked these Panerai watches for a long time, some of them have a very classic look. Not really everyday "tool" stuff but I wouldnt complain.
