It wasn't the first one but the most memorable was "BLAZING SADDLES" at the Rose drive in in Roseville Minn. on Snelling. First because the drive in had a full length neon Rose that bloomed for a sign on the back side of the screen. Even as a kid I thought that was way cool. But, come on, It was freaking "BLAZING SADDLES" for Christ sake!!! I was about eight or so, ('73 ?) Extra bonus points to my parents who took two cars, parking the station wagon ('71 Plymouth satellite) with all the kids in our large brady bunchesque family on one end of the theater, and the '70 Monte Carlo SS (454 car) on the other end for them. Very strict instructions to "settle your own differences, and do not bother us"!!! Could you imagine that in today's political correct world? I think it would be considered child abuse to leave your precious children in a car alone for more than a minute these days... even with their helmets on!!! More or less an "R" rated movie! God I love my parents!!! Love that movie still...

    This wasn't my first movie...

I remember my older brother taking me to see this gem at the Spruce Drive-In in San Mateo just outside of San Francisco.

Donnie & Marie in GOIN' COCNUTS - "It's so funny it's a crime"

I got you all beat! I remember going to see "The Babe Ruth Story" starring William Bendix with my folks in 1948 or 1949. Don't remember if we went in the old '37 Olds or Dad's new '49 76 Sedanette, so I can't pin the year down exactly. It was at the drive in at 78th and Portland in Bloomington, Mn. I don't remember the name of the Drive in; any of you old Minnesota farts remember what it was? Maybe just the "Bloomington Drivein" or "78 Something"?

As a kid my parents took us to the drive-in all the time,The first movie I remember seeing there was ET at the old South Bay Drive-In In Torrance,Ca

  8. I want to say it was about 67, at the Double Drive-In on Southwest Highway just west of Western ave in Chicago. Went to see "The Green Berrets"(SP?)with JOHN WAYNE. I was probably about 6 and my brother was 5, kind of a hard movie for little kids, but my Dad the MARINE just LOVED it. That was my first and I'll never forget it. Mike.

  9. What a bummer, I'm almost 32 and I've never been to a drive-in movie. Probably 'cause I've always lived in Gayoming. Oh well, at least we have drive-thru liquor.

The first drive I remember was the Robinwood Drive in in Tarrant City Al. My father took us to see Jaws II before we went to Florida. That was in 1976, I was 4 years old. I remember the the helicopter and pilot being eaten by the shark and Roy Schieder beating on the pipe with a boat paddle.
I also remember a Movie about giant ants.
My best drive in memory was when I was seven or eight. In 1980 The Mustang Theater in Center Point Alabama had a special showing of Henryhousen's Jason and the Argonauts. This movie was 20 years old at the time but the car line stretched a mile down the parkway. It was great. In the previews was a Trailer for Raiders of the Lost Ark.
My parents went to see Raiders and liked it so well they took my brother and I. The submarine scene, great stuff. Even at that young age I knew Indy was not wearing a "cowboy hat". This was probably what started my love of fedoras.

First movie I ever saw was Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid at a drive-in in Riverton, WY. I was 7 years old and thought the speaker was for ordering food...

My first drive-in experience was when i went with my neighbors in Olney, Ill to see a double feature. James Bond starred in both: Dr. No and From Russia With Love. The car was a '60 Dodge four door (light green) We had fun but I fell asleep before "Russia" was over... It was probably '62 or '63.

  15. Wow! Riverton huh? I didn't know they had a drive-in up there.

  16. James Bond movie (not sure which one)with my folks in Fort Wayne, Indiana In my Dad's light blue 64 impala SS

  17. Who can remember. We went to drive ins in the San Fernando Valley, when I was a kid, all of the time. I was too young to recall the first time. There was the Van Nuys, the Laurel, The Pickwick, The Victory and my favorite, The San Val. I worked as an usher while I went to school to learn auto body. I remember the bicycle, the long white coat, trimmed in red and the jaunty yacht cap. After the show, they would turn on the lights and, in the glow, it was a sea of empty beer cans and rubbers. Ahhh, the glamour of show business

went to see Lady and the Tramp when I was about six at a double drive in. On the other screen was Friday the 13th number 1(how many are there really?). My parents didn't notice that all us kids were watching the horror flick.
Had nightmares for years. My older brother would do the cha cha ha ha thing at bedtime and freak me out.

    great memories of the past.

  28. There was the Rialto Drive-In where Desert Village is now. Way before our time.

I heard once that Salt Lake City had the most Drive-ins per capita than any other city.
