When painting two or more colors, how do you break the hard edge between the top color and the bottom color? Do you carefully wet sand it even before clear, or do you clear multiple coats, and sand then? Just curious, I've never done it before, but have thought about tackling it one day.
Depends on the paint. If you are using base coat clear coat, the build up is minimal. If possible, don't tape the first coat, just shoot base where the edge will be, then tape off the second coat, producing just one edge. Make sure you put a little hardener in the first coat. Pull backwards on the tape. Shoot your first coats of clear, sand, then final coats. The old enamel would really put up a hard edge that was a bitch to stripe. Striping with basecoat clear coat, you stripe before the clear and the edge disappears. When pulling your tape backwards, it helps to pray.
There's a couple of ways of doing this. Tape off the first colour and shoot it. Then unmask and mask the second colour. This will make the colours pretty well level then shoot your clear. Or Shoot the first colour, mask for the second, unmask and clear coat 3 coats. Watersand and recoat the clear 2 - 3 coats. The Old TInbasher.
