Just seeing if anything cool is close by, dragstrips speed shops. What about swapmeets in the area? Or just any cool points of interest.
I see listings for a car show up the road in Sayre PA. And you're not too far from Hershey and Carlisle, maybe 2 hours drive. You go to those swap meets you've been to all of them. Someone more local will have to fill in on drag strips, but there's tons of circle track racing to be had.
Good guys show at Pocono. I'm about an hour away. Try to keep my local stuff up to date on our website during the summer. It is local to me though. Jim http://cruisin.jandcawards.com/
Lots of back roads. If you are in sullivan county, and driving through Eldredsville? stop and say hi to Vince, he drives eather 28 rdstrpu or 31 model a coupe .He's a good old boy. Enjoy God's country.
Plan on taking a roadtrip west a couple hours in Sept. Our club ( www.DriftersCC.com ) puts on a show that's been gettin' bigger each year. Friday pre-party,plenty of motels and food joints. Hotrods,Bands and a great old drive-in movie! Check it out at www.SteeltownShakedown.com
route 6,across the top of Pa, is one of the prettiest rides you'll ever do on a summer weekend. I "do it" on two wheels & four, an awesome stretch of two-lane
Within a reasonable distance: Hershey shows Carlisle shows Jalopy Showdown KOA show near Gettysburg NSRA York Macungie: Wheels of Time and several other events Pocono Good Guys Phila area: Hot Rod Hoedown, Simeone Museum Hershey AACA museum Vargo Drag reunion Drag reunion near Wilkes Barre (I forget the name) These are the best ones that come to mind now. Good luck!
Jalopy Showdown in May. Pocono Drag Lodge Reunion mid-August. Hershey in October. Also, check this link -- http://holtononline.com/topsdown/carshows/april.html
I'm guessing that you're chasing work in the gas well industry. Plan on being a good hour or better from most anything good. I grew up in housing development ridden NJ and moved here 25 yrs. ago to escape the teaming hoards. Pretty scenery but long winters and lumpy roads from the frost and bandaid roadwork. The nearest civilization is up in NY state which means you travel seriously salted roads in the winter months. Sayre car show? Forget it. Couple dozen cars including late model Vettes and crap like that.
I here theres lots of horse and buggies cruisin around up there in PA(amish) They have family cruisin around here in ky near me
Get yourself a tetnis shot so when you get cut on that rusty metal you dont get lockjaw. Get use to the snow and HIGH tax's. There is a huge car show in Carlisle every year though.
Oh yea. And watch out for the amish on the horse and buggies. If you need any would work they build a mean front porch. Heavy duty.
That too bad Here is some info for you http://www.city-data.com/city/Towanda-Pennsylvania.html The good news is they do have 2 cell phone towers the bad news is the crime rate is going up Gary Towanda Forcast Saturday 6 AM Snow Showers High 21°F Low 10°F Precip: 60% Mainly cloudy with snow showers around in the morning. High 21F. Winds N at 10 to 20 mph. Chance of snow 60%.
I grew up about 15 minutes south of Towanda in Wyalusing. Live about 45 minutes from there now. Know lots of the local car guys in that area still. Lemme know when you get to town and I'll show you around.
The Steeltown shakedown is a must. Been there the last 2 years and will be making the drive this year. There is always shows/swapmeets in carlisle, hershey, the there is also the jalopy showdon which i plan of heading to for the first time this year.
Not really car-related, but Finger Lakes area of New York is close. Pretty scenery and local wines. The Corning Glass Museum was interesting. I was in Towanda a few years back, the movie theater was a restored opera house. Don't forget the Jalopy Showdown Drags in October.
