  4. I chose my screen name years ago because of my obsession with and collection of vintage Chrysler, Dodge and Desoto hemis and rare speed parts. This was before the repops currently available, when you'd get excited because you found a set of NOS head gaskets or something. I've always been thrilled by the chase and when all the hemi stuff became relatively commonplace I started to lose interest. I sold off everything and started focusing on other things. But I'm back in the game with a newly acquired hemi of sorts - it's a Daimler hemi, one of the little British motors that powered the early to mix 60's Daimler sedans, the SP250 sportscar and a few Jaguars as well. Mine is slated for a cool little Thames 1/2 ton project that's rolled around in my brain for too many years that it's finally coming together.

  6. I hope this engine doesn't have a gear-driven camshaft. If It does, you'll need to find a crankshaft as yours will not have the enlarged portion next to the front bearing that is necessary to accommodate a bottom sprocket. Gear driven systems are not, to my knowledge, reproduced so you'll have to switch to a conventional timing chain.

Any 331 or 354 automotive crank should fit as the stroke is the same for both engines.

I've just joined the ranks as I just picked up this '55 Chrysler 331 C300 Hemi, or most of one! lol Once you wipe the cosmoline off the cylinders, you see it's been cross-hatched, so a possible bore and hone was done. Also it's been line bored. Someone decided putting aluminum pistons with the rods into the hot tank was a great idea, and so, the pistons are all half melted and the rod caps are missing. The heads and rockers appear to also have been rebuilt, but I am having the block and heads miced and checked for cracks or any bad things. I have "Hurst" brand motor mounts that appear to bolt to a flat crossmember. I'm missing a pan, oil pump, pushrods, a crank, valve covers and some other parts, but nothing that can't be purchased without too much hassle. I don't know much about these hemis but am going to learn, and already have seen a couple threads here that have good info.

I probably will do a decent cam and use the dual quad manifold as I can't afford to get crazy with a blower (wish I could though!) and such. It's going to go into my 1950 Hudson Coupe with Fatman stub and MII with airbags on all four corners, shaved, triangulated 4-link rear with 9 inch. Keep those threads going for us hemi newbies, we appreciate them!

    Hi

I have one I bought from Jr.Thompson. 1957 392 (now 417) with Howards cam, Jahns 10 to 1 pistons, HotHeads intake with Holley carb, HotHeads long tube headers, Joe Hunt ignition. Currently being mated up with a Tremec TK600 and fitted to my Morrison chassised 1952 Plymouth Suburban with steel wheels from Early Wheel so I can run my 1956 Chrysler "spinner" hubcaps. Hopefully driveable by Summer ?

392 and the original car it is in a 1957 imperial.
Got a bit over the top buiing parts for the 392 to rebuild.
a 6-71 , 4 bold mains dry sump oil pump custom pistons etc etc
planning for a 14 psi boost with 9.5 to 1 pistons and running on ( liquid ) propane injection.
Had to put the project on hold for over two years, hope to start working on it again in a month or so.

I have a 426 Hemi out of a totaled 70 plymouth barracuda , My Dad worked at good year in 1974 his best friend bought a new cuda in december of 69 and in 1974 totaled it the insurance company wanted 436 dollars to buy it back , the owner did not want the car and my Dad could not afford it , so the owner of the car told dad if you pull it and replace it with a junk motor you can have it , so in 2 nights my dad pulled the motor and trans and rear end ,,, Never replaced anything except the rear end all he did was spot weld in a ford rearend and left , Dad needed the motor and all for a 55 Dodge pick up ((( daily driver ))) but when the weather warmed up he went on strike and could not afford to do the swap so the motor and trans and rearend all sat in a 60's model Ecconoline van out back ((( Dad had no idea what the motor was or how rare it would someday be In 1986 I was in 11th grade and needed a good grade in auto Body shop so I took it all in did a quick tune up and cleaned and painted all three pieces then got my grade (( B )) replaced the motor and trans and rear back into the van and when I bought my 41 willy's in 1990 I knew I had a motor and trans for it , still not really knowing what I had , I still have it all including the car and it's still not done yet but hope to be done before spring , will be posting pictures on a thread soon
