I dropped the 250 in the falcon wagon to day to find out that the engine mounts that look/I was told would match up, do not. No big deal I'll make them if i have to, but I was just curious if there was anyone who might have a suggestion? Has anyone done this before? Any tips? Thanks!
The motor mounts are the least of your worries, there is no room for an engine driven fan, and the drag link is going to be in the way of the oil pan. You might also run into trouble with hood clearance.
actually it all seems to line up pretty well except for the engine mounts. This is HAMB?!?! Anything is possible..Right?
Yeah, I think the mounting areas of the 250 are about an inch wider on each side than the other lil 6's. My econoline has a 250 in it and the mount pads were redrilled to fit.
I'd be looking at mounts off something like a late 70's Grenada. My daughter had a 78 Merc Monarch with a 250 in it and I don't think that there is a great difference in the chassis of the Falcons and those. Tough engines for sure.
Ford 6 cyl forums alot of good info on ford 6cyls http://fordsix.com/forum/index.php?sid=ec561a00c997c76bf1063bb46e5e403b Paul Jug
So tonight all I did was round out one of the holes in the frame mounts of the falcon and she slid in to home like Pete Rose. The only issue, that steering bar across the frame hits the oil pan. No bueno. Any suggestions??
Sounds like you need a front-sump pan like used in all the cars this motor came in before about the late 70s. Shouldn't be too hard to find at salvage; might even be available from Ford.
hurry up clash, we gots ta go fer a drive already. you have a few months to get your shit legit, then summer is here......
sorry man, you know I'm almost always up for wrenchin, but I think I got the death bug. I'll get a hold of you when I get done hackin it up.
I went from a 250 in a car once to a 200 (I had to make spacers for the mounts) and was let down by the difference in power. The little 250 was pretty strong low end....the 200 was weaker than rain water. The 250 I had was a 1970 model out of a Maverick....some of the later models may not be as strong. You should be pleased with the swap.
