$18,500 for Brakes???

  1. Cruising on the auction site and found a set of Kinmont brakes being sold for $18,500! Now I'm completely unfamilar with this set up, and they may be worth every penny of that, but is it a feasibility that anyone would spend $18,500 on a set of brakes?? I don't care if I had all the money in the world and they were cast by Henry Ford himself in his basement, for that kind of money they better not only stop my car, but allow it to travel through time.

Enlighten me. Is this the expected buy in to the "super rare brakes club" or is this seller, who very well may be one of us here, just off the mark.

No ebay links here, so you're just gonna have to find em or use your imagination

If you come across a set of Kinmonts at the flea market/yard sale, that's some serious vacation money you just stumbled on to. Bonneville=paid for!

I guess if you were building some sort of crazy Poteet 300K dollar car and had to have em, then here they are!

  9. Amazing. The 32 Ford Roadster of brakes I guess.

For the sellers sake I didn't ask to dog on him, it's his shit and he can ask whatever the hell he wants for it, this is just a set up that I personally have never heard of and figured they had to be rare as all hell to have that kind of price tag. Thanks for giving me yet another holy grail to look for.

Was the car still attached ? At Hershey in 1995, a friend of mine paid $4,000 for an N.O.S. set. I can't imagine that the roof has been raised that much, but, someone thought they were worth it. Just goes to show you.......

Some of you boys should invest in some old Hot Rod magazines.
Then you would gain some knowledge of the roots of our hobby.

Next time you are at a swap meet of flea market, spend $20.00 on some old issues.
    And actually read them.

(OLsKullZ RodZZ from 2004 don't count.)

They're hard to adjust, hard to find liners for, and don't work very good....

So that much money for fruit bowls seems a bit steep... Maybe from Tiffany and Co....

Stupid money for stupid parts is still... Stupid.

Not my world. So I dismiss it.

No shit. I'd rather have a Calder Mobile in my front yard :D

So why doesnt someone just repop them and sell them for $1000.00?

Ill bet a lot of folks would be interested at that price..

THey could be updated for better braking too,

if i were filthy rich the only way I'd spend that kind of money is if I were restoring an old HOT ROD that had them back in the day. otherwise I can't see spending that sort of money.

Believe me. When you are travelling at 120 mph and you can see the end of the road, any brakes are worth that kind of money!

O.k, I had to look. That is what he is asking for them and not what they sold for yet. this isn't the first time he had them listed and they didn't sell last time either.

I have seen some that did sell at that site a couple of years ago. 1 set sold for $4500.00 and the other set went for a little over$6,000.00. Both were for a pair.

I also noticed that seller has a Tucker rear grill for $8,000.00 listed too.

What is the special cool factor about these brakes?

Are they simply rare? They work really well?

I profess ignorance, please enlighten me.
