Bob Lithgow. Seems like it was a red #28. His car after he got rid of that one was driven by Jan in some of his early usac races. He won a few in a row in the vw. I'll try to track down somebody around here. I'm sure I saw it run in the midwest.

 

This is the Kurtis Kraft invoice for my Dad's second midget, July, 1947. A dollar sure bought a lot more in '47!

 

Here is another email from Chuck Schultz.

It is an outstanding example of a mid 50s homebuilt. Raced from 1955 thru 1977. First with a Ford Ferguson, then an Offy, a Falcon, & finally a Chevy II.

Also shown in one photo is Ernie's sidewinder rear engine Offy circa 1967, now restored in California.

#50 is being restored by volunteers for eventual donation to a museum. Lance Turner, son of legendary car owner Harry Turner, is leading the team at Turner Auto Body in Kenosha Wisconsin.

Looks like Duane Hanson in the 50 and the bent car must have been when new owner was killed in it , not sure of his name , may be Frank Geiger ? Heard the seat belts were put in wrong they were bolted to the belly pan .

Anyone have any images of Bob Litgow in the 1968 version of his number 28 midget. This image shows him, but I am looking for a clearer, more informative image. There is little doubt that this car is the midget that I now have.

Here's someone I'd like to see some pictures of .. if anyone can dig some up.

A really nice guy from up in the North East, he ran with both the Northeast Midget Racing Association (NEMA) and with the American Racing Drivers Club (ARDC).

In the 60's he drove the white & orange Smith Kurtis/Offy with the ARDC. .. After his passing his son competed with NEMA for awhile.

His name was .... RONNIE EVANS.

Ken, I remember Ronnie driving the orange and white Eichman Offy, #57 I think. I have several pictures of him on a CD that I can't pick off separate pic's of though.

Ken, can't find of Ronnie Evans right now, but here is one of Smith's Offy.

 

The pictures of the car bent are from it's last race. John Komppa Jr. was at the wheel. He was fine. I "believe" it was Pat Buening that was killed in the car in 1968.

Yes, Jim that sounds like it could be RONNIE EVANS. He was a real nice guy. I started to get to know him when the American Racing Drivers Club (ARDC) was first running weekly show at the Old Bridge (NJ) Speedway.

Hmmm!!! Artie Eichman!!! I last saw him 25 or so years ago at the ARDC 50th Anniversary Dinner in Allentown, PA. Artie, Sonny Sanders & his wife Ann, Ken Brenn, my wife & myself shared a table and lots of interesting conversation & of course bench racing.

The next morning, at breakfast, I introduced Sonny to Phil Walters aka Ted Tappet. They had never met.

Lots of GOOD people were at that dinner, that are no longer with us today.

Artie Eichman's car was last powered by a cross flow Chevy II. Artie made & sold his own aluminum cross flow head for that engine. If I remember correctly aluminum side cover plates, valve covers and other parts too.

A Chevy II powered midget with one of Eichman's heads on it might be an interesting historical piece to have today.

I'd still enjoying seeing at least a picture or two of RONNIE EVANS.

Spike, Is it possible this picture of Smith's car was from 1962. In 1963 the car was dark blue.

 

Sprinter 2...........That is picture I took myself at the Bloomsburg race. I was 100% sure it was '63 til I read your question. I've been known to wrong before, so it's possible that it could be '62. I'll do some more checking and let you know.

Hey Sprinter 2, I did some more checking and I'm sure it was '63. I have another picture taken that day of Harrie's Offy No. 4. MaGuire was the driver and he still had both arms. He lost his arm in May of '64 at New Breman. The Bloomsburg race was always in the fall, so it had to be '63.

Old time Western Pennsylvania midgeteers will be saddened to hear of the passing of Don Dahle, who often drove the Ed Lowther #77 ,and the Patterson Offy#77(same car,different owner) in both ARDC and USAC competition in the late 50's and early60's. His career started after WWII, and included coupes,modifieds,super modifieds, midgets, USAC sprints , dirt track late models,pavement late models,and others. He was a great guy, and a good friend to my family. He will be missed greatly. John S.

Sprinter 2...........I just now compared the pic of the white car you've shown with the picture of mine. The lettering is different on them. Check out the number style on the nose and tail. Also the hood lettering is a little different.

I tried posting this earlier in the year, but since alot of new folks have joined in, I'm giving it another try.

My wife's brother in law was Richard Lefever, and he drove a midget that was purchased out of the Maryland area.

The first car they bought and ran was a red Offy Meyer-Drake motored car that was purchased from Dave Welk, and repainted brown with the
# 49. The car actually belonged to an older businessman named Hargas.

The car ran namely in the Williams Grove, Reading, Mason-Dixon Speedway, Tequay Speedway, Hatfield, Susquehanna, Lincoln, Syracuse, Port Royal, Atticca, Old Bridge, Flemington and Bridgeport circuit.

The second car they bought and ran was a Red/White/Blue Curtis Offy #21, and ran primarily the same circuit. He drove primarily in the 60's and 70's, and later was a car builder and co-manager of Flemington Speedway for a couple of years along with Joe Hall. He also drove quite a few modified races during the Budd Olsen days.

Rich passed away last spring, and I was looking for copies of any old photos, newspaper clippings, etc. with him in it, that I could possibly give to his widow Debbie.



Any help would surely be appreciated.

Spike, You are correct. It is possible the picture I have was taken in 1961 when Milt bought the car from Johnny Pawl. I will check with Bob Miour and see if the negative is dated.
