one was in town last weekend, I think the gal said there were nine different models through the years? and there are four of the current model driving around the country right now, we took one of the grandkids up to see it and took a few pictures. looked like a fun job..

here's the only picture I have at work,

pay no attention to the big dork in front of the giant wiener

There are seven Wienermobiles in existence currently, with each assigned a part of the country. The hotdogger position of driving the Wienermobile is an open position to U.S. citzens and the duration of the job lasts for one full year: from the first of June until the following first of June. Every March at Kraft and Oscar Mayer headquarters in Madison, Wisconsin there are final round interviews held for the hotdogger position. Each vehicle holds two hotdoggers, and twelve people are chosen from a final pool of 30 candidates brought to Oscar Mayer headquarters. The 30 candidates are screened across the country from over an average of 2000 applicants. Both current hotdoggers and Oscar Mayer recruiters visit college campuses across the country in search of the next round of hotdoggers. Only college seniors who are about to graduate are eligible for applying to this hotdogger position. Currently there are about 500 hotdogger alumni.

  5. I heard that this model was inspired from a "Bell 47" helicopter and the prototype shared the front bubble from the Bell.

If they didn't... I'd like to know who would've blown that bubble!

  6. Could be. The stuff they sent just said it was built on a Jeep chassis.

  7. Is it my imagination, or did the wiener get larger as the years went on?
That is, until the little Mini version came out.

Very possible... the Bell 47G came out in 53 and that model of Wiener was prototyped in 57ish by Brooks Stevens who built it on a Willies Jeep chassis.

I saw that Mini Coper version a couple of months ago but thought I dreamed it. I feel better knowing it's real.

  13. The inlaws are the Meyer family....no relation....but my wife has a strange attraction to the Weinermobile. Should I be worried?

The original Little Oscar was Meinhardt Raabe who portrayed the Coroner in, and is currently the longest-surviving Munchkin from, The Wizard of Oz.

Saw my first Weiner Mobile when I was in fifth grade, about 1956. Got a whistle. You could tape em your fan belt and they would whistle for a while.

My parents were on a trip with their 40 and came across a weinermobile pulled to the side on a mountain pass with overheated brakes. Dad stops to help and ends up getting to drive it. How cool is that! Mom has a pic somewhere..

There is one at the Henry Ford Museum, parked right next to the chair Abe Lincoln was shot in. Seems disrespectful to me.
