The best ( worst one ) was my Sonoma last November.
Had it on CL and a buyer calls, he has no transportation so I drive 25 miles to a mall where he can get to by the bus.
Meet him there and he likes the truck, so the plan is to meet him the next day after my doctors apointment some 50 miles from my house. I line up a ride home from his area , and call after the doctors apointment as planned.
Call and call and the A>H> never answers his phone, wasted a couple hours in town and gave up, still have not heard from the Jerk.
Since sold the 99Sonoma and bought a older truck.

How about "its in really nice condition" with no picts in the ad 'cause the guy don't have a camera. When you call he reassures that the body is in excellent shape with almost no rust. So you spend an hour on the road to find out that the guy is asking a premium price for a '50 Ford that is in average shape for a MN car -- a rust bucket! So you call him on it and he says "well its in really good shape for a 60 year old car"

    How about this...
My brother owns a Kawasaki m/c dealership in Winnipeg Manitoba. It's only 60 miles from the US border. He gets local people in his shop all the time who look over the bikes checking out all the details, often taking up hours of his valuable time, then head across the border to the US to buy one cheaper.

"Jasper remanufactured engine, just 2 yrs old with 20,000 miles, great condition, hear it run."

60 mile drive, dusty, greasy, no air cleaner, 4 nearly dead cylinders and had been used as a farm truck engine and hardly ever been on a paved road. Thats about like 20,000 miles a 1/4 mile at a time on a drag motor.

    Yeah....

I just get tired of people telling me how bad the economy is when I have something for sale and how my car is worth half now what it was a year ago.

had a guy look at a 55 Olds the other day. Asked for a Carfax. No shit!

I also love the guys that ask for the bottom dollar, or even make an offer, then go through this exhausting inspection and end up not buying it. How can you make an offer without inspecting the car first (see other thread about when an offer is an offer)

I've had a few annoying people who were trying to buy some HAMB-ish stuff from me.

My modified '90 Civic? Ha! Try to see if you can withstand all the stupid questions people ask about those!

I do not have the money but I have something to trade.

I been trying to sell one of my project and all I get lately is I have something to trade. The best one was this guy that came and look at it and said I do not have the money right now but I have some thing I can trade. So I asked ( I do not no what came over me to ask that but I did.) what do you have. He told he had an s10 pickup set up for a small block Chevy but no motor or trans but it has Z28 wheels, A 1998 Chevy 4X4 with a bad motor and a Honda motor cycle that he was chopping.

So again I do not know what came over me but I asked about the Honda. He happen to have pictures of it with him. Wow what a piece of shit.

So I ask him you want to buy this project and you have no money, how are you going to finish it. This one is a classic. He said "My grandmother is dieing and she is leaving every thing to me." I just ask him to leave.

You guys must have a lot of money to buy all the cars you look at. I'm a little more conservative and end up looking at several before buying one, and every time tell the seller I'm thinking about it. Because I really am.

i will take a check but the car or what ever stays locked in the barn till it clears.

  12. Had a guy years ago (10 or so) call me on all steel 33 Ford Sedan delivery I had 4 sale.Sent him numerous pics, and all documentation on it.
He calls back and said he had seen the car @ Louisville the year before and really had checked it out.
We agreed on a price and he flew out to Phoenix from Detroit.
I pick him up, took him back to my shop (150 miles from Phoenix)
Walk in the shop, he looks over the car for a few minutes, we go into my office to do the deal.
He puts and envelope down on my desk and say's "here's the $$$"
I count it and he's $5000 short on the agreed price.
I say "your a little short"
He then has the balls to say, "that's all I'll give ya for it"
So I stand up, give him his money back, ask him to step outside the shop
while I lock up and turn the alarm on.
He goes out front, I lock up, walk out and go to get in my truck and he says "ya gonna give me a ride back to Phoenix"
No answer from me , I just get in my truck and go home.
    Picture this---
Here's a guy standin in a very small town (1 sq mile) out in the middle of "Bump Fuck Nowhere AZ" Parker to be exact, with a bag full of money, no taxi services, no bus services (ya get the picture?) and he's a 150 miles away from anything.
I'll bet he'll think twice before he ever tried that again.
BTW - Sold the car about 3 months later to a guy in Flordia for 10 grand more than the IDIOT offered me.

  13. Only sometimes. Maybe mostly, BUT: I personally know a guy who will talk the ear off of anyone who is selling whatever it is that catches his fancy at the moment. I also know for a fact, that he does not even own the motorcycle he is riding (falsified title, VIN doesn't match); at the mo' does not own a car; has been so far behind his mortgage that he cannot get another mortgage, supposedly forever; is too lazy to harvest the TREES out of his gutters, to the point where they have fallen from the house and now sit at an angle to the ground, from the other end which is still attached. There is more, but that's really enough to know - he don't got no money.

So why does he waste people's time??

Your guess is as good as mine, I don't speak to him anymore.

Had 2 salvage rebuilt (fully disclosed damages with picture documentation) Cameros in the front yard for sale at the same time. Lots of kickers with all the excuses but no buyers. Sat morning an older guy stops buy, drives one, then the other gives $250 cash deposit to hold BOTH and came back in and hour with cash. Bought both for his twin grandsons. Never know who has the cash and who has the B S.

  15. WOW!! Now I gotta ask: Do you know what he did to get home?? Or did you ever hear from him again??

Love it, just what he deserved.

I always enjoy when they emphasize CASH! CASH! I always respond with "Well i don't expect to be paid in shiny rocks!"

    Or

Will you take payments? Sure, 48hr payment plan half now and half when you pick it up within 48 hrs.

I've been on the buyer's side most times. I've been really lucky most of the times, usually was able to have the seller send pictures, agreed on the price and turned out the items were better than they looked in the pictures. I've also had many where the seller has said, "like new", "never used" only to travel to find out the item was "like new" or "never used" because it was sitting in the same place outside for the last ten years since the item was bought new and have been ravished by the elements. I see the item is a piece of crap and the seller becomes incredulous that I think their stuff is crap. Even if a seller sends you pictures a $3 can of spray paint and a picture taken at the right angle can make almost anything look new.

When I've sold stuff I've always been 100% honest, even pointing out the flaws. I think there's no worse feeling than when you're trying to cover your ass when you lie about something. If a buyer dosn't think what I have for sale is worth my price then it's up to him, I know what I think my stuff is worth.

After wasting my time for over an hour, " I really don't want to buy it I've just never seen a car this old". This after he begged me to drive across town to meet me at my shop because he just had to have it.

  22. Here is the most recent, about an hour ago, "The car looked better in the picture", I'll call you later and maybe make you an offer". I told the guy before he came the car is a seventy year old survivor and is not perfect. Check it out for yourself, 40 Ford Deluxe Tudor Sedan on the Hamb classified. I remain congenial and patient and thank everyone who inquires.:D:).

Craigslist seems to be the BEST!!! Had my Wrangler listed for sale, and was offered a horse trailer for it, Being nice, I stated I didnt have a use for a horse trlr, since I didn't own a horse. He then offers to up his offer to the trailer and a milk cow! ( SWEAR TO GOD) Still being nice I explained I live in a subdivision with no room for either. And again... he came through with a 3rd offer, The horse trailer, a milk cow , and a Billy Goat!!! This had a catch, since I was asking 4k for the jeep, he figured his trades were worth more and I would have to through in $50.00 on my part. At this point I had lost any patience with the man that I may have had. Told him if he really wanted it to make me a cash offer. He then snapped back and told me I could sell his stuff for more than I could get from the Jeep, and hung up on me!! I really thought it was a joke because i'm notorious for doing stupid things like that to buddies when they sell their things. But 2 days later, the guy called me back and didn't block his number and it was an out of state call!!! Oh.. his second call was to tell me if I would reconsider his offer that I would'nt have to through in the 50 bucks!! God love the small brain people!!!

Stupid me called him back & spoke for an hour, I told him I had knocked back two offers of 40K then he text me later offering 30k cash in instalments..... I realised I'm the idiot who called someone that cannot pay his phone bill.

We had a pretty decent 79' coupe deville for sale a while back, guy shows on his way to work saying he wants to buy it/needs a bigger family car, Ect. I tell him to come back when my fathers there to deal, because its not my car. Next day he comes back with his girlfriend and kid. After talking and dealing, he goes to his car and talks to his angry looking girl about something, counts the cash causualy, with his back turned to us and thinking I didnt see it slips a few bills in his Girlfriends purse. Walks up telling us, "Well i kno you want to get $1,000 for da Car, but all i brought was $800." (Original price was $1,500, but the leather was starting to crack and the 425 had a nasty lifter tick). Just as my dad was going to say "Thats ok.", i piped in with, "well we already knocked $500 off of it, and for $800 i might as well give my dad that and have my self a sweet deal". Now he goes back to his car, talks to his even more angry looking girlfriend, and magically comes up with another two $100 bills. Done deal, caddy goes down the road, and after telling my dad what i saw i had $200 in gas money. :D

wish i could come across more of these "buyers"

i actually had a similar thing happen to me. i had a pool table on craigslist for $300. kid came over and said he'd take it if i would accept $250 for it. i said sure, and he gave me $200 to hold it until monday (three days later) so he could round up a truck, etc. well, monday came and went. never heard back from him. i even called him several times, for weeks, wanting to know if he wanted his table, or if he needed help getting it to his house, etc.
    nothing.
so, a month goes by and i sell the table to someone else for $250

wouldn't ya know it, the guy calls me a few days later wanting to know when he can get his pool table. when i tell him i sold it to someone else because he dropped off the face of the earth, he goes ape shit and says he wants his money back, he's gonna kill me, etc. i told him to come on by any time he wanted and if he could make it two steps into my driveway without being punched in the throat, i'd give him back his money.

    never saw him.

    people are idiots.

  28. G'day, Had a very low mileage 70 Buick Riv for sale. The guy showed up $500 short. Gave me his new Glock 9mm still in the case to hold for 3 weeks till he had the rest of the cash. Even gave me a couple of clips and boxes of shells and told me to try it out. Showed up a couple of weeks later with the cash. done deal

Used this a couple times for that same reason. I went and looked at 3 1948 dodge cars. 2 5 window coupes and 1 four door car. Guy was asking $3000 for all three. so i figured being one of the ugliest cars Dodge made and not worth very much that they must be in pretty good shape. called the guy and he said they needed some work but were in pretty good shape and one of the coupes was complete with title. and he said he might be willing to sell just one. so i follow this guy for 20 minutes into the middle of nowhere to check them out thinking if i can pick up the "complete" coupe and use as a driver for awhile i would. Get out there and he starts walking toward a tree row. I new i probably wouldn't be leaving with a car. not one of the cars had a floor in it anymore and the bottom 6 inches on all of them was almost gone. They were all sunk into the ground. I told him they were a little farther gone then i would want and he said, "well they are 60 year old cars." i kept trying to skirt around the fact that all 3 cars were maybe worth $500. before we left he said he'd "cut me a deal. $2500 for all three." I told him i'd have to think about it and left.

I had a Ural mc. with a sidecar for sale. I took it to the local cruise-in and met a dude that told me he'll take and will be by to pick it up on Sunday. He is a CEO of a fairly large company in my area, but I didn't know him from Adam. He showed up with a company check and was planning to ride it 30 miles home. He had never ridden a sidecar bike. I figured that he would wreck it 1/2 way home and cancel payment. I told him that I'll accept his check, but would hold the bike or he can come back Monday with the cash. Needless to say he left really pissed without the bike. Fast forward 1 month he called me, came out, paid me cash, and left on the bike.
