Where to find them? I see some vintage speed parts for big money and several cars on here with chrome valve covers. Where can I get some?

I don't know if new ones are offered chromed or not, but they may be getting the originals plated.

I wondered about that but wasn't sure how straight they would have to be.

  4. I scored a set of finned cast aluminum valve covers on Ebay a few years ago. They're made in Australia by Fountain. Search here for a 318 poly thread and you may find a source.

Alan and Craig Fountain make finned alloy covers for the 318 Poly and are planning on doing some for the early Poly as Craig has one he plans to use in a new build.
Re the chrome covers I think you would find that they are originals which have been chromed. If you plan on chroming some they need to be straight as.

Nope I mean wideblock 318 thanks guys as usual the hamb rocks!!

  9. A small point, but the block on a 318 A Poly is no wider than an LA - it's just the heads hang out so far. I guess we knew what you meant, so it's all okay in the end.

That 'wide-block' term needs to be buried, and deep....

Wideblock is just a slang term. It's all good!

  12. AS a child (15 year old)I had a set chrome plated. You can find them on my old website by searching. It wasn't expensive and would be similar in wallet pain now as it was back then although not the same $ of course. The more you do to get them ready the less it will cost. Clean and smooth being the trick.
Search "DOn DulmaGE" then go to "Pics" I believe it is.
Also, most classic boat ( Wooden Launches like Greavette, Hunter, Dodge Watercar, Chris Craft etc) Poly engines had Chrome covers. A search of marinas around cottage country will usually turn up a set or two.

Here's a place that sold chrome valve covers for 318 Polys as recently as 2004. They may no longer do this, but here's the info anyway:

Contact Jason (Abomination on here) as he'd love to sell you all his stock of Poly stuff which he did have advertised in the Classifieds.
