Still have my first car I ever got. '55 DeSoto Fireflite w. 291 Hemi 4-B. Mildly customized over the years. Been everywhere in that car, dated & honeymooned with her. My wife loves her as much as I do.

Yeah, I think that's my problem - it's not so much that I get bored with what I've got, it's just that I want every car I see and can only afford to keep one at a time.

Another thing is that in the past I always enjoyed the build as much as anything, so I'd sell or swap for the next project. Anymore though, it's just too hard for me physically.

Still though, jealous of the guys that have stuck with 'the ONE' that got them started.

This '29 RPU was first assembled by me (sophomore in high school) as a deeply channelled, fenderless, flatty-powered beastie in 1956. I have owned it and changed it a lot over the years, but still have it! It has been to St Paul Nats, Spokane Nats, Bonneville, SoCal cruise and rod events....bla bla bla.

Nothing like cruising down the hwy in an open car!!

  9. Well we've had the old panel for about 39 years and 318,000 mile so far. Can't think of any reason for it to go down the road without me....

I still have my first hod rod - the maroon one in the picture. It was my grandpa's, my mom drove it to college, I drove it to high school and so did my brother, I drove it as my primary transportation until 2000 when I moved to Washington. It is currently 'resting' while I dig out from this economic fiasco so I can start its frame off. Not very custom, just a little bit hot rod. But still my first car.

Still have my 55 Roadmaster, got it 11 years ago when I was 16. Traded a clapped out 61 Bug for it. Sadly she's in storage while I work at that whole "life" thing & get some other projects cleared out.

My first 1955 Chevy 2 dr hdtp bought in 1974 won 2nd place in 1980 CCC show, was really hard to keep during the 10 years I was in the USAF and had to ditch a few girl friends wanting me to sell her along the way , but I'm about 1/2 done re restoring her now (my Edsel sorta got in the way).

  16. Dragged my 55 home when I was 15 in 1972. Thirty seven years later it's still not done! But that doesn't mean that I haven't driven the hell out of it! I don't have any pictures of it when I first got it (on my PC anyway) but here's what it looked like when I was driving it in high school.

Here's what it's doing now. Waiting to be put back on the street.....

Well, not really a hot rod or a custom, although it has been modified fairly heavily for vintage racing with modified suspension, added roll bars (bolt in rear hoop), strengthened chassis and some engine work (puts out around 150 hp out of the stock 4 banger, vs a stock 90 hp). My old man built it for me and gave it to me around 6 months old, so I've had it for about 30 years now. Currently undergoing a mild resto. My '56 100-4 (100M clone-ish)

My Dad and I started on my '30 pickup when I was 17 in 1979 and I still have it. It's now waiting silently in the garage to once again be a father and son project, only this time it'll be me and my son.

I bought my 40 when I was 13 for $150 in 1983. It will be 27 years this summer that I have had it. It's been on the road since 1992, and still hasn't gotten a hood or finished interior. I've thought about selling a few times, but a 40 Ford coupe is the ultimate Hot Rod to me, so I start to think about the "next time", and slowly collect parts for another freshening up. First pic is of the "1st drive" in about 1990. The other pic is now.

Hot rod? We thought so at the time.
It was grandpa's, he bought it new. My brother and I acquired it around 1949. We took off the original 21 inchers and put on 600x16s and painted it tu-tone blue with a brush.

We drove it wide open as soon as we got out of dad's sight! Rode it hard and put it away wet all through high school. My brother is the custodian now. I drive it every time I go visit him. Restored in '98.

  29. I bought my 32 3W in 1974. $1,800 was a lot of money to me back then.
I wish I had been smart enough to keep the Olds and the hydro that it came with.
