Yeah I rolled the piece over some 1" round bar so it wasnt a sharp bend then used the stretcher to get it to bend around the corner. Actually worked pretty good. I think the jaws in my shrinker are about shot I want to get a heavier duty one eventually.
Dude you are a ruler for sure! cant wait to see how this thing turns out how bout a few pics of the bikes ?
Man, That is great work. What an insperation!! How do you smoot it out like that? keep tacking untill its all welded? Absolutly beautiful!
great job so far...looks like you really take your time and do it right the first time... more pics please of the that rear piece under the trunk... tok
Great I'm loving it! Dont let anybody tell you that your car is too rusty to fix, just do it and have fun doing it!! Fantastic work!
You do fantastic work, that's just amazing! But, the first thing that came to my mind, was what Dakota asked, why, with your fab skills, did you choose to keep the stock setup?
Beautiful work. Would you mind posting some pix of the intermediate steps between the tack-welded stage and the finish-ground stage? I.e., a pic of the fully welded pieces before grinding and maybe one or two before being fully metal-finished? Many thanks, in advance. Cheers -- Gary "There is nothing to it,. At the time, I kinda figured that if it worked back then it will work now, and I got sick of every one saying" you should put that on a Olds chassis cuz thats what I did", so I just did it to prove a point. I may end up changing the front clip set up yet not completely sure.
Yeah just tack everywhere spreading out the heat untill its fully welded then smooth it down I used 36grit on an air sander.
My buddy had a nice merc with the stock setup lowered. I saw him almost crash it a couple times (once almost into me) it handled so badly. I mentioned this to another friend, and he said he had driven that car when the owner lost his license for a spell. He told him he'd never drive it again. I'm sure many here will say I'm wrong, but I think you'd be wise to swap it now while it's still fairly easy. JMHO Beautiful work though
Some bike pics... my dads chopper 74 BMW my friend built Yamaha I built this summer My shovel I built Now with different tank, bars, and no motor gonna go through it this winter.. My first bike a 1980 Ironhead I chopped..wish I still had this one Le Mars is in NW Iowa, about 25 miles north of Sioux City
Yeah that would definately suck. Plus it would be way easier to switch it now before the rest of the car is finished. The way it is now with the flipped spindles, I'm having a hell of a time getting brakes to fit the wheel cylinders hit the upper kingpin, so thats another reason why Im thinking about converting it. Thanks for all the positive comments. Kris
Well I got some more rust repair done this weekend, funny how much more you get accomplished when you arent hungover all weekend haha. Cut out and replaced the top of the rear fender and got rid of the gas filler door. Ended up making it in three pieces to get the right curves. Gonna start on the trunk floor again now that I have some good steel to attach it to. Heres a couple pics... tacked in place fully welded
