    lowsquire,
    think a little bit.

think of what makes the oil pump turn.

.....put the oil pickup in a coffee can of oil.

Again, thinking of the cyl wall wear, am I correct in that the cyl walls are oiled from a hole in the bearing end of the rod? That would explain the wear since you had no oil to the rods.

I think he had the stock pump, so no relief valve there; The actual relief valve in valley never saw any oil.

To clarify one thing that is hard to spot in the military full flow setup: The fitting that sends oil TO the filter has a sleeve on its lower end that passes through the oil gallery and blocks it from access, doing the same job that rodders do with a plug stuck horizontally into the passage. This means that no work is needed on block except for a simple hole drilled down from the port. The Canadian system used stock sized ports, making the lines rather small for the use...but I guess they worked, as that engine was the backbone of transport in the Desert war!

That is really interesting about the military vs civilian motors. What a shame though. :(

    Your car is GORGEOUS!

  15. Hahahahaha... a joke only the Aussies will truly understand. At least he didn't say Foster's. ;)

Ben - Sorry to hear about it. It probably happened the day after I visited, so apologies for any bad luck that may have rubbed off me. :(
