What years, makes, and models should i look for in order to find this tranny . I am going to the pick and pull to search for one this weekend.
One out of an S-10 Blazer should fill the bill. A bonus would be that the shifter would be in the right place. Frank
Pre-93 and out of an S-10 pick-up .. S-10 T-5 has the shifter in the right position and pre-93 is mechanical speedo...YES Blazer will work too..
Well, from 89-91, you could get find either mech or elect speedo. After 91, all I've seen are elect. For the original post: Check the tech archives - click the red link in my signature line below.
Actually, no T5 will have the least amount of problems installing. The award in that category goes to the original transmission. Bob
Yep... This thread in the tech archives pretty much links all the important prior threads on the topic: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=169265&highlight=t5
There is a website "BritishV8" that has a very comprehensive list of T-5's and there specifications, applications and the code used for each........an invaluable tool when looking for a T-5
The October, 2006 issue of Rod and Custom has a really good article that covers the ins and outs of adapting the T-5 to vintage engines and the year and model differences.
a T-5 from a four cylinder S-10 will work. They have a lower first gear , I have one behind my nailhead and it's been there for a year now.
Not if it's newer than '87. The lower first gear is based on year, more than engine. You MUST decode the tag against a comprehensive list to determine the gear ratios. You cannot go on application alone.
I'm gathering parts right now to put a t5 behind my 322" Nailhead. Would you share your clutch combination? Thanks in advance.
Stock nailhead bellhousing, machined the center hole to fit the T-5 front bearing retainer, used a nailhead pressure plate and a S-10 disc. cut 1/4 inch off the input shaft and also the bearing retainer where the throw out bearings slides ( because it touched the pressure plate . Built a pilot bearing by turning down a chevrolet pilot untill it would press inside the Buick ( Buick had a BIG center hole ) then locked to two together by drilling a 3/16" hole from the outside edge straight toward the center hole , BUT not all the way , then I taped it 1/4 -20 and screwed in a bolt and cut the head off. Then installed it in the Buick crank. I've put over 12,000 miles on it and it works like a dream. I hope you understand what I was trying to say. If you need any other help call me at work M-F 6:30AM to 5:00PM @ I'll PM you the number
I just bolted one up to a 354Hemi.Just wondered what tail section you used, my shifter is at the rear of the box (S10 parts are a bit scarce over here) Got any pics showing the shifter in the car?
