Man I love 1960's Drag Racing, Great pictures. When my dad ask what I want fot Christmas I am going to show him this link.
WOW! .... The color really makes these images pop..... The picture with the rail with the front wheels hung high and blowing the guys' shirt should be the icon shot for 1960's drag racing.
Gang, there is lots of good stuff here, I was a roommate to these guys when all of this was going on and it was an amazing time . Drag racing was in the process of changing from a backyard hobby to a major sport, there was something new every week; innovation was constant. Makes you wonder what happened to that spirit when you look at mainstream dragracing now!......Waldo
Don Hale I love ya baby! I have at least 10 of Don's Prints from Lyon's DragStrip back in the day. I had Don sign each one of them and he said "you know, if i sign them then they aren't worth anything anymore" and i said "maybe to you- but to me they are even more valuable once you sign them" Don just smiled. I had Don come out to the Auto Boat Speed Show in Spokane, WA and the crowd just loved it. Don Hale lives out by my old house in Washington and i haven't gotten out there to see him yet but i am SOOOOO excited to see him up here on the Jalopy Journal. Thanks to Ryan for posting about such a great man. If you want to sit down and talk with someone who really knows drag racing, Don Hale is the man to do it with. Love you D.H.
Whilst I'd seen (and adored) some of the listed photos, I keep looking at this and thinking....."cool as F..." http://deadendmagazine.com/may09_page357-358.html Thanks, sure brightened my day, Drewfus
