Here's a scale 1/64th 1/4 mile pass ( 20' 7.5" ) of one of my custom Aurora Thunderjets. I build the chassis & motors myself. This drag class is known as "Outlaw Tjet". This is one of my "slower" cars. Yes....it's actual elapsed time and mph!!

That little 1/64th man inside just died from too many G forces!

  10. Very cool! I used to do that with 1/24 scale, I can't even remember what the times were. Definitely nothing like that!

I have done that at the local slot car place. It's fun. My car is a turtle compared to that.

First sentence in the first post, 20' 7.5".

That was crazy. I was watching the tree come down and that little bugger disappeared!

That track looks similar to the one my wife found on utube showing the slow motion launches and wipeouts. Cool stuff.

I do have video of a nice cloud of smoke left behind. I use springs & silver braided shunt wire instead of the regular motor brushes. I use fine oil on the comm plate to lubricate the contact surface. It will usually leave that cool looking cloud of smoke behind.

You're right about the $$$, and winter is too boring for me! So, I dusted off the track, bought some new batteries, and got it goin' again. I can actually run bracket races with the timing system. I'm gonna host Friday night at the races, bracket racing with a cash purse!! Should be fun!!

There was a local shop that had a 1/64 scale 1/4 mile track. Lights, timing slips, everything. It was very sweet and I had a blast doing it. Too bad they closed up. My "fast" car was in the .500 second range. They also ran brackets too.

Closest race was run on the last night they were open. I was running against another guy for the final round. We were both dialed in for a 2.0 second run (these were the slower cars but very consistant times). We both ran an identical time and trap speed. IIRC is was a 2.010 at 53 mph (yes real mph). I beat him at the tree. His reaction (on a pro .400 tree) was .402, mine was a .401. Closest race anyone there had ever seen, real or scale. I took the money home that night!

    Sure miss doing that.

  28. I wanted to build a 1/64th scale track in my garage a few years ago, but never got to it, but some day I will. I drag raced 1/25th a few years ago here locally and that was fun.
