I have these Firestone bias ply blackwalls mounted on 15" 63-4 steelies. Swapped them onto my 62 Monterey last week and added some 50's Merc dog dish caps.
Unbelievable how much wheels & tires can change the look of a vehicle so I decided to share these photos on the HAMB. Here are a couple shots of the car the way its been for the past 7 or 8 years, and a couple I just took yesterday. I know its all about whatever I like best for myself, but feel free to chime in with opinions or pics of your own ride in various wheel/tire combos.
By the way, I'm short one of these caps so if anybody has a real nice spare, let me know! Thanks.

It's confused, it has bellflowers, it's lowered, but it has musclecar rims but it's a 4 door.
I kinda like it myself but the whitewall and chrome rims suit the car the way it is.

I thought I would like the blackwalls with the steelies, but after looking at your pictures, I like your original look with the chrome rims better.

Chrome and whites without a doubt. Your shots are like a "before and after" breast implant advert, only with the photo's the wrong way around.:D

ya, the blackwalls/dog dish combo screams muscle car. stay with the chrome/ww.

  18. The Bellflower tips didn't seem out of place with the dog dishes until mentioned. Both look good to me, but yeah, no Bellflower tips with the dog dishes.

Is the engine stock? The dog dishes do suggest more of a hot rod, the chrome more of a cruiser.

    Chrome/Whites 2X for your Merc.
The black steelies with the dog dishes belong on a plain Jane 2 door Galaxie sedan with a 427 4 speed under the hood.

  21. chrome and whitewalls without a doubt. nice car.

Funny, the wheels/tires are in fact from a 64 Galaxie 4-spd car dressed up like a 427.

Thanks everybody for your comments! Its been really entertaining to read and find that the majority prefer the ww/chrome reverse rims, which I'm sure I will eventually go back to.
I can't help now but wonder what the car would look like if it was a 2-dr sedan, no bellflowers, and wider 8" rims in the rear similar to one that sold on ebay recently (see photo).

I would personally lose the bellflower exhaust either way.

  28. My thoughts too. It is a beautiful car, and the chrome's belong on it.

  29. Lose the Bellflowers and take your pick, or keep em and go back to the chrome/ ww combo.
