I've been on here for some bit...decided to post pics of my current project. Some of you may have already seen it when I posted pics of the car is this topic: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=407007 Showing my $30.00 paint job. Don't judge to much of it yet for it is still in the final assembly stage...may take a couple more months to get to 100% (FUNDS!)..but at least you you can get an idea of what she'll look like. I know that this is not a TRADITIONAL car...but SAFETY was #1 in the build of this. To me it is just a plain ol' HOTROD. Here are some details. 1930 Model A Fordor. Car has a 2x3x.250" frame with a 6" front "Z" and a 18" rear kick. Driveline consists of a very mild 454 backed by a 3 speed auto and a Ford 8.8 rear out back. B&M Pro Ratchet Shifter 800-15 Coker Bias out back, 560-15 Bias up front. 525 steering box, DD steering shafts. Crossover steering w/panhard bar. Manual brakes with an 8:1 pedal ratio. Rear suspension is a coil-over 4 link, front is spring behind axle. A 6" chop was done and the body is channeled over the frame 3". Running "SPEEDWAY" disc brake set-up up front, Drums out back. 11 gallon fuel tank w/sending unit draining into a Holley BLUE pump. Car has real GLASS in all 8 windows (not all installed yet). '39 Ford REPRO tailights. Airstream camper licence plate light. 16 gauge tranny tunnel and .750" Marine Plywood Flooring. 2 Bucket seats out of a mini Skidsteer/Bobcat loader. Lap belts. I bent 1" tubing for the proper arch for roof support bars, will be installing a snap on/off marine grade vinyl roof covering. Radiator SHELL is a early 30's COMMERICAL style that has been chopped, sectioned to fit. The GRILL is made out of .500" copper tubing. Been somewhat of a "BUDGET" build. When all is said and done will have about $4000 out of pocket cost into it..not counting the HOURS I put into it (but who counts those anyway for our own projects!). So far "I" am very happy with the outcome of it. Some will hate it, some will like it..to each is own...All I know is that I put A LOT of effort to make it safe and reliable! Here are some PICS...Will post more as the car progresses. Thanks for looking!---Tom
I was following your build somewhat with your rustoleoum paint post. Looks great. I hope you and your fam have a great time in it!!!!
Thanks everyone...When I first layed eyes on on the body I knew it was for me...something a little different! Already looking for the next project..Just don't tell the wife!
Your welcome on the paint post....As for the shocks...May do that today...crappy weather coming in for the next 4-5 days!! It's 11am and only 48*!!!
No interior in her yet!!! Have to finish the wiring and plumbing from the back half of the car first, then I can install my floorboards and build upon the interior from there! I did get both front doors put back together with new window guides, felts and seals...they go up and down like new! Painted the shocks the same as the body color. I even painted the scoop the body color as well!
This car is going to be a big inspiration in my build this winter. At first I was holding off, hoping to find a tudor or (gasp!) coupe, but I'm going for it! Thanks, and super ice work!!!
Yep.... The grill SHELL was a commercial truck one that was sectioned and narrowed. Was going to make the GRILL out of some stainless tubing I had...but realized I didn't have enough....sooo..out to the shed to see what I had. I had a couple sticks of copper tubing left over from when I ran some waterlines...it is .500" diameter. I made an upper and lower rail (can't see in pics) out of 1" copper...drilled .500" holes in those two rails and incerted and sweated the VERTICAL copper tubes into those rails. Welded 4 studs on the backside of the grill shell..drilled 4 attaching holes thru the copper and secured! WALA!!! A different grill shell that only costed me time!
Very nice, and it looks wicked with your paint color. Did you clear coat it? What's your plan from keeping it from oxidizing?
Add me to the 'like it' list. Uh, actually, if you start a 'love it' list, feel free to move me over to it, as well. My permission is implied and non-reversible.
Elbow grease! Leaving it natural to see how it will look oxidized...Then I'll decide from there! No...I have an 18" kick in the rear that comes about halfway forward of the back doors. With the car being as low as it is the rear wheels/tires also impare the operation of the doors. They are welded shut, but keeping door handles on them. Shall do!!! Thanks!
That,my friend is a cool ass hot rod!! Building something that nice on a small budget is no easy task. My hats off too you. Enjoy it man!
