I called in and saw Ben for a brief moment this morning. All I can say is "pictures don't do the real thing justice"!!!!! Some great ideas and workmanship in the chassis. It'll be a knock-out when finished. Thanks for the Coffee Ben, ........ and now back to regular programing

Outstanding work!! Must have been a real shock to walk out the next morning and realize the steering is on the wrong side!! :) Like the stock heads. you could stick a pair of polished alum. "Canadian" heads on in the future for a little different look.

that looks awsome, cant wait to see the body on it

  12. That really is beautiful. The detail is awesome. I will be very happy if the 40's style roadster I am building now comes out as nice.

But.... I do have to comment on the front shocks. They just look way too new.

But I stll love it and will look forward to seeing it finished.

Thanks roadstar, yeh Im in agreeance with you on the shocks, think Im going to order a set of the covered so cal shocks in bare metal and paint them. its a shame i cant nickel plate them..But,theres enough brightwork up front with the foglights and brackets and all. also the shocks on there now seem incredibly stiff just bouncing the front end but Ill reserve judgement till i drive it.
Body goes on tuesday! will update then.

Thanks for all the positive comments, means a lot.

  14. Whew. That makes me feel better, not that you are getting different shocks, but me being the only one with a negitive comment you didn't take offence.

I am building a early car and I know what you mean about feeling like a restorer some times.

I like the stearing too, I have been thinking about early x stearing as well.

    Great job keep us posted

  15. Ben, looking sweet, and a credit to you, love the detail, and the 'restraint' illustrated.

Similarly the paint, and colour selection, will be all class.

In regards to those shocks, I've got them on the HA/GR and have had on a roadster, pathetic performance comes to mind. Have since seen a few alternatives (plain black tube shocks, similar length) that would not only be fitting, but effective on the road, will try and find some details if interested, even for refference sake.

    Congrats again.

    Cheers,

    Drewfus

    that would be great Drewfus.
Im leery of them as the spring rate seems to jump up more than double with them on, with them off the front is compliant and feels right, shocks on and it seems ridiculously stiff. i know there is more weight to go on, but still..

  17. looks great Ben! thanks for hauling it to the show, people had a great time looking over it. can't wait to see it on the road!

  18. Hey ben, chassis looks nice.
Where did you get your brake line clips and those e-brake clips that bolt onto your bones?

Ben, you've done a fantastic job mate!

She really looked the shit at Chopped.

Meant to come and talk to you about it but did'nt end up doing so.

So many other people I would have loved to speak to too but did'nt end up doing so either!

Anyways, there's next year and I'm looking forward to seeing it done there!

I'm sure it will be as equally impressive as it was this past weekend!

What body are you putting on it? (Steel/Fibreglass)

    Well done!

    HC.

    Very nice work!
Was there any dramas with the 39 merc steering?
Did you have to shorten anything?
Only reason im asking as ive got a 39 merc column mocked up in my a model
and it looks a little long .
    Again nice work.

  26. Maybe a stupid question, but are the front and rear axles also Merc 39.

I also got a 39 Merc that will have 54 Chrysler running gear so i hope to
use as many parts of the Merc's running gear as possible in my 32 project

Very nice work, hope to see it finished soon

I don't care for the steering on the "passenger" side of the car, but other than that, It's one of the better posts of what will be one of the better looking HOT RODS on the H.A.M.B. this year!

Some of the pic's would look good in the H.A.M.B. calendar.

I can only imagine the hours you have invested

    Beautiful work there.
I came to the same conclusions about the steering on the 34 coupe I built a few years ago. That had 39 steering.
Set the steering box well onto the frame rail. Run the column real close to the head, stick with cast iron heads.
Bet it was just a little tighter still in a 32. You will love that steering when you get to drive it. Mine drove great.
    Excellent work.
    Mart.
