Here's the history as I understand the owner: The original owner bought the car in 46 off the floor. He brought it home and his wife was so upset he took it away. He stored the car in a steel building in South Dakota. Life continued on at home. Around 1996 the fellow died and his was cleaning up his estate and her husbands friend told her she needed to deal with his car. She was shocked to discover he had kept the car all that time.

Having no interest in the car, the friend helped find a new home for it. The person who I bought the car from (second owner) bought the car, had it shipped to California for restoration work. After sitting for 50 years it needed brake work and the new owner desided to have the motor reworked ( not sure why, maybe stuck?). The motor was completley rebuilt by Dicks and reinstalled in the car. New tires, shocks and other goodies were done as well. The paint.... was polished and new caps installed on the wheels.

The car was then shipped from California to B.C. by the new owner. Since then, its been driven to shows and on weekends. The owner had bought it to take his aging parents riding in. Both parents passed before having the chance to get out and about in it. Its had less than 300 mile put on it since being rebuilt.

With parents gone and not a lot of interest in keeping her, the owner put it up for sale. I first noticed the ad about three weeks ago but throught it may be a scam so ignored it. I'm sure many of you who cruize the lists may have seen it too. Yesterday at noon I noticed the phone number had been added so I called. The owner still had it, had received no calls and really wanted to see the car go to a home where it wouldnt be rodded.

After receiving a dozen more picture via email I was on the phone franticly leaving messages. The Bank wire transfer was done by 3:30 and shipping agent called. You know the car and story are real when the owner starts reading receipts to you and giving the right answers to questions.. wheres the vin tag, hows it run on hills on a hot day, does it have electric wipers, How is it on unleaded gas.

She'll be here on Thursday. Will take pictures when she arrives. I'm stoked!

Very interesting 2nd owner. He lived in Hawaii while he had it worked on. Shipped it from South Dakota to California and has a disk of all the motor work done... step by step, all parts and befoe and afters. Then shipped it to Canada when they moved back here.

The paint is interesting. The original owner attempted to bring it home again as a used car in 52, again the wife said "no!" Just after the war, their money was tight and she felt better spent in home (food- kid clothing etc) than on a "new car". So in 52 in an attempt to bring it home, the gentleman had it repainted the cream colour ( the stock colour was a light blue) before trying the "honey, I found a nice used car". Again she said no!

He was a business traveler and did drive it when in South Dakota. The couple lived in Minnesota, about 20 miles from where I grew up. It made the hair on the back of my arms stand up the more I talked with the guy and he told the history. All of us who feel under the thumb when it comes to our cars and projects can be pretty thankfull that we can at least have our project in our own yard.

He also found a disk of photos taken durning the motor rebuild at Dicks... full pictures of parts and assembly taken by the mechanic.. as well as all the receipts and documentation. He had scanned pictures sent to him. He asked if he could keep the original pictures, i had no problem with that.

Miles on it??? I didnt even ask, I'll let you know when it arrives.
...he sent me an email this afternoon, his phone has been ringing off the hook all day yesterday and into the night.

I can tell its been a part of his family and loved. His wife sent me an email telling some of their weekend show stories and asked if it would be okay to come and visit sometime. -Guess that puts a kybosh on any suttle pinstriping.

I've heard of this happening to other guys and never been so lucky. Just happened to be at the right place at the right time.

Yes sir, she don't need much! Perhaps a subtle lowering, some striping, a nice set of caps (although the dog dishes/rings look great as well) drive!

  20. It can't be a SHE. It has nuts.

  21. Where at in South Dakota? Small state, odds are I know the family or know someone who does!

Is that house strawbale? Curious since I built one.

  22. Man that is pretty cool!

Something doesn't jive with the story of him storing it and only occasionally driving it and then the second fella putting 300 miles on it. Where did the 60,000 miles come from?

Stawbale! Very cool, I would have loved to but the industrial nazi's say no to them around here. I wanted to do a Recycled tire shop but they pissed on that too. I'm afraid its 2 x 8 construction.

I found a receipt in the file folder that came with the car last night for a used speedometer, re and re $280. I emailed the last owner and he responded that the glass was cracked when he bougt it and replaced it with a used speedo.

Smaller things I'm noticing are very slight delamination or whitening on all the glass. Its pristine glass except for that. I dont think a guy can fake that.
