Well, the car is completely disassembled and the welding has begun in earnest. My wife says I am most photogenic when I'm welding...see the helmet covers my....aw forget it. Lot of material consumed in a NHRA spec cage. Looks like at least 3 small spools of wire and three bottles of gas. Mokan looks impossible unless they have a class for "unfinished cars with engines that smoke and 8 or 9 percent of the parts missing"...I know they're around here I just don't know where they are. More later. Butch
Car number 235, "The Red Flame Six" seems to be yellow. Somehow this will all work out. More later...I'm going to get a riding lawnmower as a pit vehicle.

The mower on the left Butch is the one you need, could serve double duty. You don't need steve to drive it.
Okay, I got it ...if I'm driving my lawnmower pit-vehicle in the pits and am stopped and tasered by and NHRA official I fall the ground and yell" I know my rights, I know my rights."
Well the car has some color on it now. Striping and numbers in progress on left side...right side is just painted at this time. Have hopes of making one race this year. Still have my SDRA hat, but lost the decals. How can I get (buy) two more? If it aint one thing it's another. More later
Hi Butch, Your car looks great, and a toy should be bright, and your's is. Looking forward to seeing it in Tulsa. Joe
Butch, Great color scheme. Looks fast just sitting there. Don't scratch that paint with your hold downs!
Just tried to post some pictures to show the progress in exactly six months of work, but can't get the camera to upload. It's close. If you stand back and squint your eyes it looks like a completed race car. I'll try the camera again tomorrow.
Race car building is easy. Working these new fangled digital devices; that's what is difficult. Looking forward to seeing the pics.
Well this is as far as I got by Mokan date. Exactly six months from the chalk line on the floor to this point. Found a Powerglide to replace the turbo 350. It's dead-stock but I can put a shift kit in it. It's supposed to be in good shape ...the fluid is real red. What could possibly go wrong? More later.
If it was made by human hands and used in a race car (any kind), it will be tested to and beyond its limits. Somebody proved that some where I'll bet.
Butch,, That is one nice looking car.. Do you have a guesstament what it weill weigh when completed.???
Hi Butch that is a very sweet chassis and color combo. The chassis design is kinda apealing nice job, very nice. Patch
Butch We will be looking for you to come back and visit with us in Tulsa again. We want to see the car make some passes. Please don't forget the pictures at the track of the first pass. We are all waiting.
There is nothing particularly light weight about this car. Full rear end, drum brakes, mild steel full NHRA roll cage, Speedway Motors .250 Gasser front axle I think it will be around 1,700 pounds. Butch
Butch.. I think your over guessing the weight of your car..Maybe 1400...I weighed mine today.. With coolant in the radiator, and 6qts of oil----1200 lbs.. no gas though..I was very surprized, Believe me.....
Need to do a quick check. Can anyone tell me if a 302 GMC has the same bell housing bolt pattern as a 235 Chevrolet? Thanks.
AFAIK Yes. There may be some wierdo variant's though. You do know that the later 302s had the 6 bolt flywheel? It's exclusive to the 302 as I understand it, cna be hard to come by without ordering a 'new' custom unit. Point being, get the flywheel with it, if you can.
My good friend and Stovebolt expert (although not a Jimmy expert), Barry Weeks thinks the bellhousing bolt pattern is the same, too. Sounds like you might have a lead on more horsepower/torque.
Yeah, only bad thing is, the 302 was famous for grenading the trans they put behind it, I don't remember which trans you have, but be carefull.
Butch Two cars here (Tulsa) are running GMC/PG's with no trouble. If you have your car together and running by the 9th of Oct.(Fri) come up to Tulsa and run with us, then on the 11th (Sun) go to MoKan and race there. Two races one weekend.
Update: I changed the transmission to a th200r4 and finished building the engine. New pictures soon. Butch
Been off the board for a while as I built my 58 235. Rod bearings looked good so I didn't replace 'em. Installed new main bearings. Disassembled Oil punp and it looked normal. Filled 'er up with 20-50 wt non-detergent oil for break in ...but when I prime the oil pump with an electric drill I can only get 30 lbs oil pressure. If I open the line to my partial -flow oil filter the pressure drops to 23 lbs. All this is on a cold engine. Is this enough pressure to run an AH/GR? Should I go to straight 50 weight Royal Purple. I know the manual only calls for 30 lbs pressure, but I can barely get oil to the rocker shafts cold. Help, SOS...Advice please. Butch Nassau
