    Hi!

Could buy a V8 engine for cheap. Seller doesn´t know very much about the motor.

He says that it is a 4.8l V8 engine with ca. 390 HP. The engine number is: D4DE-6015-BA 5L6

Does anyone know anything more about this engine? What manufacturer is it etc.?

    Thank you!

    don't know any 292cube v8's that make 390hp factory.

could be a vortec 4.8l or a 292 Y block.. your not really giving us much to work with here.....

The casting # is for a 1974 revision Ford 302. Nothing special. Factory stock rating was about 140 hp. 390 hp would require a lot of modification.

Do you mean 5.8L? and it would be a mid 70's 351W....certainly not 390hp in stock form.

    302 does sound like a d4de code. November 6th, 1975. Granada

If it's cheap, it's a decent start for a basic hot rod engine. Plenty of aftermarket for the 302/5.0L.

Stock, it's a low compression, 2 barrel. Reliable, but not too exciting.

5L6 is a casting date code.

    5 is the year, 1975
L is the month. I believe they skipped I to avoid confusion with 1, so November
    6 is the day

Thanks for your replies so far!

    What is it now? A 292cui Y-Block or a 302cui Windsor? Seller says 4.8l. 292cui=4.785l and 302cui=4.948l

The vendor sells the engine for some other guy and doesn´t know more about it. Will try to contact the real owner.

    Thank you!

It's definitely not a Y-block with that casting no. on it.
As others have said it is 1974 or later with D4DE on it.

Are there parts availible for this engine to make it look more traditional? Availibility?

  11. I guess it really comes down to how much "Cheep" is. A couple hundred is cheep. $700 and up isn't cheep, especially if the seller can't give you more definite information.

Cobra valve covers are about 1965, Holley about the same. 221 (same series as 289,302) came out in 62 (I think) so.......you're not gonna get 50's traditional out of it.
