Traditional only Nostalgia Mexican 1000 race

There is a Traditional only off road race going on in Mexico this September. The same one that Mickey Thompson, Steve Mcqueen, Parnelli Jones, Don "the Snake" Prudhomme, Dean Jeffries, Ak miller, etc. was involved in. Many of the icons of Hot Rodding were a part of it back then.

Didn't James Garner run a Rambler/Scrambler ( 69 ? ) in that race. Also I think the Smothers Brothers had a 442 Olds in one....

James Garner's race team (forget the name) ran 3-4 SC/Ramblers. Some rear drive only, a couple converted to 4x4. I think they won one of the classes, don't recall which. The 4x4 conversions ran in an "experimental" class.

Also, I heard from the race promoters that someone will be doing a movie/documentary about this event.

 

Still new here and looking through the site and found this thread. Pretty cool to see some of the hot rod guys interested in off road racing. My partner and I restored a 3 time Baja 1000 (1978, 80 & 81) winning class 1 unlimited race car this past year and entered it in this years NORRA 1000. We won our class by 2 hours. Check out this months issue of Hot VW's magazine (October 2011).



Any of you guys had the chance to attend or race in the NORRA or Baja 1000?

 

few years ago i took the wide open baja 7 day tour...id love to go back and do it again..theres nothing like baja..
