Projects Little Wooden Hot Rod

This years Hot Rod Hayride has a Soapbox Derby planned for Sunday and this is what I,ve been throwing together. Three weeks worth of evenings and Sunday afternoons sees me nearly ready for final prep and paint.
















It will have "hood" sides and the butterfly style wheel is going, four spoke wheel I,m making will take it,s place. I gotta go find a hill. Ha ha ha.

 

The weight will be your friend-the aerodynamics will be your enemy!
Looks like a blast.

 

Needs skinny tyres mate. Way too much rolling resistance with those mud & snow's.

 

Neat little car. I agree it needs taller, skinnier tires and wheels. Looks like fun.

Hood sides will be cool. Cool to hide a direct drive banger engine connected to a golf cart rearend. That way you will beat all past soap box derby records, like big time!

I just hope it's not going to be a trailer queen.

sure beats the shit out of the 2x4 cars we built with the wheels held on with 16p nails as axels!!!

 

That looks cool, if I were a kid I would be pumped about driving that. The driver needs some goggles and an ol derby hat, that would be cool. It would be really neat if you pinstriped the hood

Ok, paint is going well.
Should get it finished this week and then it,s time for test and tune. I,m hearing you all on the tyres by the way, just trying to find some better 6" ones.
