Cable shifter, long handle, for Ford AOD?

I've got a friend in England that needs a cable shifter for a Ford AOD, and he wants a long handle on it.
I was surprised to see that Lokar doesn't offer much for the AOD. B&M makes a universal-fit, but the handle isn't long enough.

Anybody encounter this? What was your solution?

Make one? Not that difficult.

 

Find a used B&M and moify/lengthen

 

buy a shifter, add lenght to it,

 

Start with a stock shifter and modify the hell out of it. Should be about 5 bucks at Pull a Part

 

I used a new chrome model A shift handle with the cable on my C6

 

Unless you plan on mounting that cable shifter to the floor toward the front of the transmission near the bellhousing area it will not function properly. It must be mounted there to get the proper cable bend to make the shifter operate. Your friend should talk to someone KNOWLEDGEABLE at Lokar before he purchases a cable shifter for his AOD. I was going to use a cable shifter on my AOD because of space limitations, but after talking to a couple of techs at Lokar I made a conventional Lokar shifter work. I believe he can even get the "Lokar specific" long shift lever for one of their conventional shifters.
