Look another '49 Chevy build! ;)

What has been done so far:
    -Cut down a 123" wheelbase s-10 chassis to 118"
-Mounted the cab to the chassis using Clark's method - thanks Clark!
-Moved the "bottom" of the bed up 3" to lower the bed - thanks Clark!
-Swapped a Blazer disc brake rear end under the truck

    Things to do:
    1) Decide on engine/transmission -
    a. 235 w/T5
    b. 350 w/700R4
    2) Mount the bed
    3) Mount fenders/radiator support
    4) Mount the running boards
    5) Only everything else....

Looks like a solid 5 window.

    Keep us posted.

  3. Looks a solid truck to start with. I went with a 350/350 combo in my 53 GMC panel, mainly because that is what I could get quickly.

Hope you get it on the road quicker than my truck is!

cool truck. I would go with the 350/700R4 for the cost factor

    I'd go with a 250/700r4 combo.
Wait, I already did, and it runs real well!

I REALLY want to put the 235 in the truck. However, the 235 is so tall it looks like the crossmember will be a problem. Does anyone know if a 235 will fit this swap?

    Truck update:
Still working on the bed mounting

    Next up:
Mounting front clip to chassis and then trial fitting the engine/transmission

Added a few new pictures of the build. It's not going fast, wish it could, but it's a lot of fun and things are moving ahead. Picked up a GM crate engine out of a van for $50, rebuilt 350 trans for $200 and mounted the bed. Still working on some steering, brake and header clearance issues.

Love all the other build pics from others on this site, been a big help to my build.

Looks like you got a nice solid truck. I'm doing the s10 swap also. Why did you go to a 118" wheel base? Keep the pics and progress updates comin'.

looks good!! i am doing a 49 on a s10 frame also. i went with a 327 and a Turbo 350.how are you going to tackle the radiator support?

  10. Me too! 350/350 combos are more readily available 'over here'.

    Remember Swede...Rome wasn't built in a day,at least that's what I keep telling myself! (4 years into build)

I'm shortening the stock radiator support about 3-4 inches and using a 19x22" aluminum radiator from Speedway.

I believe the 118" gets both wheels centered in the fenders. The stock wheelbase leaves the rear tires a bit too far forward...

Solid truck....a lot better than mine was. Go with the 250...anything other than a 350/350.
